Kate Ferdinand, 29, spoke candidly about how her pregnancy has affected her mental health, after she and husband Rio Ferdinand, 41, announced they were expecting their first child together back in June earlier this year. The former reality TV star noted how she “struggled” experiencing pregnancy for the first time while still being a mother figure to Rio’s three children Lorenz, 14, Tate, 12, and nine-year-old Tia, from his first marriage to Rebecca, who tragically died in 2015 from cancer.
It’s just my mind playing tricks on me and can get out of control
In a recent interview, Kate spoke from the heart about her emotions and how she felt “insecure” in the first trimester.
She said: “Lockdown has been an experience.
“Obviously I was pregnant and the children didn’t know, and something I’ve struggled with is being pregnant with my first biological child and still being a mum.
“So I felt I had all these new experiences… but I was still a stepmother or mother figure to three kids.”
Kate leads an active lifestyle but felt her anxiety increase when she wasn’t able to get out and about.
“I struggle with my mental health. Being active helps day-to-day with my anxiety, so when I can’t do things, I struggle with it,” she admitted.
“I want to do everything. Rio says, ‘You need to sit down and relax’. But I feel guilty when I do.
“[Anxiety is] something I’ve suffered with from when I can remember. It can start over the simplest thing, and it’s just my mind playing tricks on me and can get out of control.

Although in my last few posts I’ve been dressed up…. today I felt I had to share my reality of being pregnant day to day. I don’t feel comfy in anything but leggings and a vest right now, and by the end of the day even the leggings are swapped for PJ bottoms!! I’m always looking at other pregnant women online and thinking ‘god I don’t look like her’, and I really don’t want anyone to feel like that looking at my posts. Sometimes social media can really make the glamorous moments outweigh the norm. But this is me. The truth is, I am hugely struggling with my lower back and groin! I’ve always had back problems but this is really taking its toll I don’t like to moan too much on here but the reality is I am struggling some days it’s manageable and others by the end of the day Its a struggle to even stand up. Getting my head around losing the ability to move freely is difficult at times, especially with 3 kids and dogs flying around the house like lunatics …. On the advice of a good friend, I joined the @peanut app. Pregnancy and life in general throws us so many challenges, so I’ve been using the app to meet other mums. I’ve picked up so many tips on sciatica stretches that have honestly got me through the last few months of pain and it’s helped me realise that it’s ok to not feel like myself. The reality is… we always share our best moments on social media, but it’s important to share the not so great ones too so we can learn from one another. If you’re a mum, pregnant, or trying for a baby, I encourage you to join @peanut! It’s a great way to connect with women in your area, for friendships, support and advice.p.s. Ronnie is never far from my side ❤️ #peanutapp #ad

Kate and Rio are expecting a boy, making the big announcement at their lavish gender reveal party held at their home in Bromley.
The family celebrated underneath billowing streams of blue confetti as guests cheered in the sunshine, quite the day to remember!
Although deliriously happy, Kate couldn’t help but poke fun at the fact she and Tia will be “outnumbered” as they welcome another boy to the male-heavy household.
Rio also shared the same snaps as he posted to social media with the caption: “It’s a BOY!!! The Boys ruling this house #love.”
