Louise Redknapp has admitted she "lost a lot of sleep" over accepting to compete in Strictly Come Dancing, which she has since cited as the cause for her marriage breakdown.

The 47 year old competed on the hit BBC show in 2016, divorcing her ex-husband Jamie Redknapp the next year.

She has now opened up on the stress she felt over taking the job, speaking on music producer Steve Anderson's Such A Good Feeling podcast.

Former Eternal singer Louise said: "I was offered it a number of times, always said no, and at this time I think I felt that probably my time was up to ever do anything I loved again.

"But for some reason, I got the guts to say yes to Strictly, which I lost a lot of sleep over saying yes to, I have to say.

"I thought, ‘Oh God, what have I done?’ It’s been well publicised, negatively and positively, that it did just give me back that feeling of the first day at stage school where you’ve just got to grab onto what really makes your world go round. Besides my kids, for me, it’s music."

Earlier this year, Louise admitted in her book, You've Got This, that she wouldn't have divorced Jamie, 48, if she hadn't taken part in the show.

She wrote: "If I'd done the show four years earlier, this wouldn't have happened. I wouldn't have walked away from my marriage."

She added that she would have been "too scared" to leave Jamie if she hadn't taken part in the show, but did admit she was grateful it had given her "a new path" and showed her she "could find work again."

Louise continued: "I still wish I'd done things differently because I feel like I hurt a lot of people and I'l always be sorry for that.

"I felt like certain people had my back, and, in hindsight this wasn't really the case.

"I was so scared about going back to normal life and losing what I'd achieved on the show."

Discussing whether she would decide to go on Strictly again if she could go back in time, she admitted: "No," adding it "wasn't worth putting anyone I loved or love through the heartache" it caused.
