Liberty Poole has revealed she made the right decision ending with boyfriend Jake Cornish, despite still loving and caring for him. 

Liberty, 21, made a shock exit from the Love Island villa during Friday’s episode alongside Jake, 24, and disclosed to The Sun he didn’t fight for their relationship – admitting there were several comments that left her feeling hurt.   

The ex-couple, labelled ‘Jiberty’ by fans, were together since day one of this year’s hit reality series and at one point were bookies’ favourites to win.

She said of their split: ‘I feel like the natural thing to do if you are into someone is to fight for them.

‘But if that is the way he wanted to handle the situation, it was right for him. It might be different from a viewers’ perspective but I am happy I made the decision I did.’ 

Their once plain-sailing relationship hit a rocky patch when producers showed the Nando’s waitress a clip of Jake revealing he did not fancy her enough to ‘rip her clothes off’.

Liberty admitted that the clip did hurt her, going so far as saying she swept it under the carpet before one thing led to another – and their communication went rapidly downhill.

She said: ‘I was in love with Jake. And, of course, I still love and care for Jake. You don’t end things then just get over someone like that. 

A strong head on her shoulders, the Brummie beauty reflected on their seven-week romance – with four of these weeks being in an official relationship with the water engineer. 

This week, Liberty grew increasingly worried she was giving him the ‘ick’ after Jake made comments about her ‘messiness’ – but she rightly-so revealed she won’t be changing for anyone.

The blonde beauty thinks Jake is a ‘genuine guy’ and would ‘hate to say he was emotionally abusive’ and the main problem with their relationship was there ‘wasn’t enough reassurance.  

Liberty said the ups and downs of the relationship ‘didn’t feel right’ and was worried about some of his pass-away comments. 

The new-found reality star explained how she felt like she was annoying Jake and ultimately just wants to be with someone who loves her as much as she loved him.

When asked whether she believed the viewers’ concerns were correct, she responded that ‘only Jake’ could answer that question. 

Liberty continued to stand by the fact their connection was genuine and also added she had ‘no regrets’ sleeping with him because of this.  

On the final four couples, Liberty believes that Kaz and Tyler ‘have a genuine connection and just bounce off each other’, Teddy loves ‘every part’ of Faye, Chloe and Toby’s sexual chemistry is ‘mad’ and Millie and Liam are ‘soulmates.’

The Love Island final will air on Monday on ITV2 at 9pm.
