Simon Cowell has to wear surgical corset two years e-bike accident

Simon Cowell, 63, has to wear surgical corset to aid recovery two years on from electric bike accident as he shows off his slim figure at America’s Got Talent filming

He has drawn attention for losing over three stone – but Simon Cowell’s figure is also being slimmed by a medical corset.

Sources confirm the TV personality is wearing a surgical back brace to aid his recovery after nearly being paralysed in a bike accident in 2020.

The outline of the brace can clearly be seen in pictures of Cowell taken in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Cowell was seen arriving for the filming of a new series of America’s Got Talent, a format which he owns and on which he acts as a judge.

Sources say he is also currently suffering from laryngitis and has ‘completely lost his voice’ which has made for a chaotic first three days of filming.

One said: ‘He’s been silent all week so far. He has laryngitis and he’s under orders not to speak or even whisper.

‘He’s been at filming for AGT and he’s had to write notes for (fellow judge) Sofia Vergara to read out. Of course she changes them occasionally!’

The source added: ‘Yesterday after three days of writing notes, they finally gave him an iPad with a load of his own pre-programmed lines which he kind of loved, because he could interrupt the other judges and press repeat.

‘Occasionally he’d press the wrong keys – especially when he pressed “I want to kiss you” by mistake.’

The source said Sofia ‘has been calling herself his “translator” and suggested he should double her money for the extra work’, adding: ‘Fortunately the contestants are often great and he doesn’t need to speak anyway when it’s a buzzer (a no vote).

‘He’s on the mend, we hope, and they reckon as long as he keeps totally quiet for a few more days he will at least be able to whisper.’

Cowell broke his back in 2020 in a fall from an electric bike he was testing at his home in Malibu, California. He had six hours of surgery.

In a subsequent interview he said: ‘It was a lot worse than people thought. I had a lot of long-term nerve damage as well.’

There was another setback after he fell from his bike again a year later.

The former X Factor star has previously shed three stone after overhauling his diet and lifestyle.

Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum also ensured all eyes were on them as they showed off their head-turning looks in an Instagram post Heidi shared to her account.

Modern Family star Sofia, 50, slipped into a sleeveless fuchsia midi dress that highlighted her incredible figure.

Heidi, 49, displayed her toned midriff in a lime green midi dress with a cut out across the abdomen.

Heidi and Sofia serve alongside longtime judges Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel, as well as host Terry Crews, who joined the show during its 14th run of episodes.

It comes after Simon candidly discussed his three stone weight loss last year.

Simon confessed he’ll sometimes indulge in a plate of beans of toast to avoid dining in restaurants.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge stressed he hasn’t ‘had a gastric band’ and instead said his weight loss is down to a drastic diet change after overhauling his eating habits.

The media mogul added that a doctor warned he’d had ‘the worst diet he’d ever seen,’ and he’s ‘stuck’ to his new regime by cutting out pies, red meat and gluten.

During an interview with The Sun, Simon said: ‘No, I haven’t had a gastric band! Wouldn’t there be scars?’

The TV personality admitted he went to see a doctor in Harley Street who specialises in a certain kind of diet.

He added: ‘He did my blood work and pee and all the rest of it, and a month later the results came in and his words were, ‘You have the worst diet out of all the clients I have ever seen in my life — you have a schoolboy’s diet from the 1960s.’

‘It was just pies. So he sent me a list of things I can’t eat, and that included red meat, dairy, sugar and gluten. And I pretty much stuck to it.’

Simon revealed that when he goes out for dinner now he rarely orders anything as he insists he’s not a big eater.

The record executive even admitted to eating beans on toast before heading on a night out as he can’t stand the food.

As well as now walking 40 miles a week, The X Factor boss rearranged his work schedule to ensure he only starts business meetings after 9am rather than hold conferences into the early hours of the morning like he used to.

A source previously MailOnline: ‘Simon said how he hasn’t worn trainers as much as this in 20 years. He feels fitter than ever before and is keeping to a normal routine rather than being on the phone until into the early hours of the morning.

As part of his life overhaul, Cowell proposed to his long-term girlfriend Lauren on Christmas Eve in Barbados.

WHAT IS AN E-BIKE?

An e-bike is a regular bike with the addition of a battery-powered motor. When you pedal, the motor kicks in to inject extra power up to a maximum speed of 15mph – the legal limit.

Any faster than that and you’ll have to go under your own steam.

E-bikes have gears and brakes. You are in full control of the motor and can switch it on and off as often as you like.

There’s no need to worry about the battery running out, as if it does, you can just keep on riding like you would a normal bike.

Simon was riding a a Das Spitzing Evolution S-Pedelec bike, which costs upwards of £7921 and has top speeds of 27 miles per hour.

The bike has been described as ‘one for professionals’ as a lighter frame and battery result in no limits when riding uphill or downhill.

The power pack has an 120Nm torque which provides up to 550% support for your own pedalling performance on request.

The combination of FOX suspension with up to 160 mm travel on the front and rear wheels and 650+ tyres provides more ease with pedalling uphill.
