I transformed a shed into a two-bedroom tiny home – people thought I was crazy until they saw for themselves | The Sun

A HOMEOWNER has proved her doubters wrong after she successfully transformed a shed into a two-bedroom tiny home.

Mariah, known as @mariah_shabinlife on TikTok, hinted some people didn't believe she would be able to create the "shabin" – a mix between a shed and a cabin.

The handy TikToker put together an 860-square-foot tiny home with just two sheds and is now being asked how she did it.

"When people come over and see how spacy my tiny home is and I wasn't crazy after all,"Mariah wrote in overlay text on one of her videos showing the inside of her home.

But now, Mariah claims to be debt free and able to travel whenever she wants because she's living in a small home.

The tiny home was built 2,000 feet away from the back door of Mariah's mom's back door.

Mariah revealed in one of her TikTok videos that it only took one year to build, however, she explained in a comment the process wasn't easy.

She said: "Starting out we had to stay in our other home and built this one until it was livable. Which was very frustrating and expensive to do."

Mariah lives in the tiny home with her stepdaughter in a small town in North Carolina.

"Everything including [the] land was about 40-some grand. But to just finish the inside out was little over 20 grand bc [because] upgrades like Shiplap etc," Mariah wrote in another comment.

In one of her videos, she noted that although they did everything on their own, including putting in the PEX plumbing and wiring, they did have an inspector check everything as they worked on the home.

"I can't even count how many times we went to Lowes. We practically live at Lowes," Mariah said. "And even when money got tight, we did it paycheck to paycheck."

"We can say that we did it with our own two hands," she added. "And it might not be perfect, but it's perfect for us."

Mariah's home is equipped with a modern-looking kitchen with a butcher-block countertop, a comfy couch, sliding doors, two bedrooms, a lounge area with a TV, and a bathroom.

The kitchen alone is 8 foot by 8 foot, Mariah explained. She also had her boyfriend make a bar area, in which they placed stools from Walmart underneath to complete the look.

There's even a backyard area outside of the tiny home.
