Megan Fox's skin-baring red Met Gala gown, plus more fashion hits and misses of 2021

It’s time for Wonderwall.com to round up the best and worst red carpet celebrity fashion of the year! We’re kicking things off with Megan Fox’s funky Met Gala ensemble from Sept. 13 — this ruby red Dundas dress. Though it was an eye-catching color, the caged cut-outs with lace-up details and that sky-high slit were elements that lost us. Paired with blunt bangs, this look just really wasn’t one of our favorites this year.

Black-and-white beauty! Penelope Cruz wowed at the “Parallel Mothers” premiere on Sept. 2 during the Venice Film Festival. The star arrived in this Chanel gown — which featured sweet ruffled straps and an ecru silk tulle ruffled petticoat — that came straight from the fashion house’s 2021 couture collection.

Jodie Turner-Smith’s “Stillwater” premiere look at the Cannes Film Festival on July 8 left a lot to be desired. The Gucci gown included an intense bustier-style bodice with studded embellishments and gave way to a feathered skirt that flowed from white to ombre yellow. When it came time to add accessories, she chose over-the-top Gucci High Jewelry pieces.

While Kim Kardashian West was in New York City on Oct. 7 to host “Saturday Night Live,” she rocked this iconic hot pink Balenciaga number. We adored the reality star’s neon crushed velvet blazer and the way she added hot pink satin pants and boots and took things to the next level with matching gloves.

Irina Shayk arrived at the Bvlgari x B.Zero1 Party during New York Fashion Week on Sept. 8 in, well, this odd getup. From the tie-dye baggy cargo pants to the bright orange corset-style bodysuit, there wasn’t one element of this ensemble that we liked.

Sarah Paulson wowed as usual on Emmys night on Sept. 19, arriving in this romantic Carolina Herrera ballgown. The rich red confection featured statement sleeves that flowed to a three-quarter length, a plunging neckline, a full floor-length skirt and the most exciting addition of all — pockets!

Dua Lipa delivered a wild miss at the BRIT Awards in London on May 11. The usually stylish star opted for a wild golden Vivienne Westwood gown with an off-the-shoulder neckline, purple mesh overlay and a dramatic train. On its own, the dress was pretty bold, but with her styling, this look turned into an obvious no. From the beehive hairstyle to the chunky pearl choker to the black stockings, garters and platform snakeskin heels, this funky getup left a lot to be desired.

Jessica Chastain looked darling in Dior at the “Annette” premiere during the Cannes Film Festival on July 6. Her pretty black gown featured a sweetheart neckline and a subtle black pattern atop delicate tulle.

Lana Del Rey served up a strange look at the Variety 2021 Music Hitmakers Brunch in Los Angeles on Dec. 4. The talented singer donned a ’70s themed-getup — a bold green-and-white print minidress with daring cut-outs paired with tan suede knee-high boots — and strangely covered it up with a very casual graphic-emblazoned black jacket.

Not so mellow yellow! Zendaya wowed at the 2021 Oscars on April 25 in Valentino Haute Couture — a neon yellow strapless gown with a unique cut-out below the bust. It also featured a glamorous train that followed her down the red carpet.

Kristen Stewart arrived at the Venice Film Festival premiere of “Spencer” on Sept. 3 in these unlikely coordinates. Though we loved the shade, we weren’t fans of the Chanel pairing — which included a mint green minidress with a black velvet bow detail at the waist paired with sheer trousers in a similar shade. Though both pieces included lace trim to tie things together, the pants seemed unnecessary and just didn’t work well with her stark white pumps.

Pretty in pink! Kelsea Ballerini arrived on the CMT Music Awards red carpet on June 9 wearing bold hot pink leather — a shiny top and high-waisted trouser combination from LaQuan Smith. When it came time to complete her standout look, she added strappy matching pink sandals from Giuseppe Zanotti and subtle small braids in her long beachy waves.

Gabrielle Union’s street style in New York City on Sept. 15 left a lot to be desired. She stepped out in an unfortunate combo — a fuzzy blue cropped hoodie and a white miniskirt covered in sequins and lace — and then added white pointy-toe pumps.

A+! Anna Kendrick wowed at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ opening gala in Los Angeles on Sept. 25. The star arrived in a strapless Dolce & Gabbana design that included a sheer corset-style bodice and a full ballgown skirt.

Mixing plaids is a bold move, and even Harry Styles couldn’t pull it off on Grammy night on March 14. The handsome former boybander arrived in head-to-toe Gucci in pieces including a mismatched yellow jacket and pink vest, brown velvet trousers, pale yellow boots and a lilac boa to top things off. Though the look landed him among the worst dressed stars of the night, at least this ensemble can’t be called boring!

Olivia Rodrigo rocked a sweet Calvin Luo minidress at the Variety 2021 Music Hitmakers Brunch in Los Angeles on Dec. 4. The long-sleeved frock featured a sweet green bow detail along the bodice, and we loved the contrast between the long sleeves and miniskirt silhouette. Equally fab? The way she paired it with adorable knee socks and platform Mary Janes.

Even models can’t pull off socks over leggings with Uggs. Kaia Gerber donned this funky combo — gray leggings, white socks and brown Uggs — with a gray T-shirt and lilac jacket over top for a fashion miss in Los Angeles on March 9.

Jennifer Lawrence shimmered in gold — and showed off her baby bump! — at the “Don’t Look Up” premiere in New York City on Dec. 5 in a champagne Dior gown with sparkling embroidery and fringe and a semi-sheer cape.

Chanel-clad Jenna Dewan arrived at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ opening gala in Los Angeles on Sept. 25 wearing this fashion disaster. The star’s tweed romper included gold embellishments, but it wasn’t the one-piece that lost us — it was the footless lace tights she rocked underneath. Add that to that the over-the-top silver collar necklace and those sky-high platforms and you’ve got yourself a fashion miss.

A vision in red! Kate Hudson selected this show-stopping Valentino confection from the brand’s Resort 22 collection for the “Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon” premiere on Sept. 5 during the Venice Film Festival. The frothy tulle gown included romantic (and strategically placed!) lace details including a high neck, resulting in a standout silhouette.

Marion Cotillard and her disastrous style strikes again! She’s no stranger to miss lists, so we’re not surprised about this bizarre outfit she wore to the “Annette” photocall during the Cannes Film Festival on July 6. The Chanel getup included a collared sleeveless top paired with bike shorts and funky two-tone shoes — a puzzling look from head to toe.

One of the big winners on Grammy night on March 14, Megan Thee Stallion, certainly arrived in style! The music star donned this vibrant orange Dolce&Gabbana gown that featured a thigh-high slit and a massive bow detail down the back. The rapper completed her look with studded orange sandals and some seriously stunning jewels.

Yikes! Madonna arrived at her “Madame X” premiere in New York City on Sept. 23 in this disastrous getup. From the white-rimmed sunglasses to the bustier, skirt, fingerless gloves and tights, there wasn’t much to love about this wild look. At least the superstar is never boring!

We loved Camila Cabello’s MTV VMAs look on Sept. 12! The star arrived in a hot pink and red strapless confection from Alexis Mabille that included a massive bow detail at the waist.

Caitriona Balfe attended the premiere of her film “Belfast” during the BFI London Film Festival on Oct. 12 in this busy frock. The dress by Stella McCartney for AZ Factory — created to honor designer Alber Elbaz, who died from COVID-19 in the spring — featured an abundance of pleats from its cape-like sleeves down the full floor-length skirt. Though we loved the structure, we think this bold of a silhouette would have been more effective in a vibrant shade rather than this dull metallic hue.

Bella Hadid rocked this fun and flirty Lanvin number ahead of a Chopard party at the Cannes Film Festival on July 7. The frock featured a feathered white detail at the neckline that gave way to a fitted short silhouette that made for the perfect party dress. She finished things off with killer Manolo Blahnik heels with a chain detail and Chopard jewels.

We wanted to love the mint green Prada mini that Kristen Wiig wore to the Golden Globes on Feb. 28 — especially since it kicked off with that great embellished neckline — but the oddly placed bows and the short ruffled hemline made it feel a tad too casual for such a big night.

Our best dressed star of the 2021 Academy Awards on April 25? Angela Bassett, who was a vision in red in this Alberta Ferretti gown. From the dramatic oversized sleeves to the thigh-high slit and train, we loved every inch of this look. She accessorized with rubies, diamonds and tourmaline jewels from Chopard.

Emily Blunt’s look at the premiere “Jungle Cruise” at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, on July 24 — a Schiaparelli ensemble — was incredibly structured and chic, and it fit the theme of the night perfectly! We loved the unique shape of her cream blouse’s sleeves and the ruffle detail along the neckline, plus the way she paired the stunning top with high-waisted, wide-legged tan trousers.

Laura Linney served up a fashion hit at the Tony Awards on Sept. 26 in this stunning Christian Siriano dress. The beautiful black frock included a ruffled collar and matching ruffled peplum at the waist, all atop an otherwise classic, simple fitted silhouette.

Whoopi Goldberg made a real statement at the Met Gala on Sept. 14, arriving in this wild purple Valentino robe. The ruffled piece was paired with an equally bright and bold teal gown — and the fashion disaster was completed with lime green elbow-length gloves. Yikes!

Hailey Bieber wowed in a sweet Miu Miu outfit at the ELLE Women in Hollywood Celebration in Los Angeles on Oct. 19. The stylish star’s black-and-white coordinates included a crop top with a wide collar and a matching high-waisted skirt that she sported with black pumps.

The high-low hemline strikes again! Model Taylor Hill attended the “Three Floors” premiere during the Cannes Film Festival on July 11 in this skirt with an unfortunate bottom half. She added a tied-up and cropped white blouse to a voluminous printed bottom that was half miniskirt, half lengthy skirt — and 100% a fashion miss.

Heidi Klum knocked street style out of the park in Los Angeles on April 23 in this pale green pantsuit, which she paired with a white sweater and white and green platform sneakers.

Billie Eilish always serves up quirky fashion, but this time she made it casual. The singer arrived at the Variety 2021 Music Hitmakers Brunch in Los Angeles on Dec. 4 in this funky monochromatic getup. Her all-crimson ensemble included a baggy, ripped tee, pants and an oversized floor-length puffer coat for a comfortable but odd red carpet pick.

One of the best dressed stars on 2021 Oscars night on April 25? Maria Bakalova, who donned this stunning custom Louis Vuitton look. Her sparkling white sleeveless gown included a plunging neckline, delicate embroidery and a beautiful full tulle skirt.

What do you get when you mix a crop top, a hood, tulle, silver beading and a sheer skirt? A big miss! Gemma Chan arrived at the “Eternals” premiere in London on Oct. 27 in this puzzling pick from Zuhair Murad featuring a long-sleeved cropped hoodie covered in silver beading paired with a high-waisted, belted and flared full-length sheer skirt.

We almost loved the Dior gown Olivia Rodrigo wore to the BRIT Awards on May 11, but it needed a few adjustments to score a hit. The strapless neon green frock featured a black belt detail that complemented her black sandals perfectly, but the ankle-length cut of the frilly tulle frock felt like it was missing the mark by a few inches.

Phoebe Bridgers arrived at the Grammys on March 14 in a Thom Browne gown that was essentially… a skeleton costume. Yep, she opted for the designer’s take on the signature skeleton onesie she often wears on stage. This one featured embellished bones that moved right along with her down the red carpet.

We were so excited to finally see Phoebe Dynevor on a red carpet following the success of her hit Netflix show, “Bridgerton,” and she definitely didn’t disappoint! At the BAFTAs on April 11, the British beauty wowed in a black Louis Vuitton gown with puffed long sleeves and a floor-length skirt that she accessorized with diamond and emerald earrings.

Though we loved the checkered print, the silhouette of Lady Gaga’s Christopher John Rogers dress lost us. The superstar stepped out in New York City on Aug. 5 in the funky frock, which featured a strapless neckline and an exaggerated skirt. She paired it with equally dramatic platform boots for a classically over-the-top Gaga ensemble.

Sienna Miller wowed at the Met Gala on Sept. 13 in this dreamy Gucci getup. The star sported a beautiful massive pink feathered coat on top of an equally stunning long-sleeved gown covered in embroidered sequined lace in a floral motif.

Olivia Culpo’s proportions were all thrown off by the strapless column dress she donned at the amfAR gala during the 2021 Venice Film Festival on Sept. 10. The extremely unflattering frock featured a feathered peplum drop waist that might’ve worked if it were either higher up or lower down.

Anya Taylor-Joy was a vision in gold Dior at the “Last Night in Soho” premiere in Los Angeles on Oct. 25. The beauty arrived in this spaghetti-strap gown featuring a dangerously low-cut bodice andperfectly pleated skirt that fell to the floor.

Kacey Musgraves attended the 2021 VMAs on Sept. 12 in this massive miss. The star’s Valentino garb included a sleeveless purple minidress paired with red over-the-elbow gloves, a purple feathered headpiece and clear strappy sandals.

Zendaya wowed at the Venice Film Festival premiere of her film “Dune” on Sept. 3. The talented beauty sported a custom flesh-toned leather gown by Balmain that featured a perfectly fitted silhouette (made with an exact model of her bust!) with strategic draping. The skirt portion was equally exquisite with its thigh-high slit and delicate train detail.

Why, Laura Dern?! The actress delivered one of the biggest fashion misses of the 2021 Academy Awards on April 25 when she arrived in this bizarre Oscar de la Renta number. It started out simple enough as a long-sleeved mock-neck frock before giving way to a ridiculous asymmetrical feathered skirt below the hips.

One of the best dressed stars at the Grammys on March 14? Dua Lipa, who arrived in this slinky Atelier Versace gown. The embellished semi-sheer frock featured a thigh-high slit and a butterfly detail down the bodice.

Our next miss? That comes from Farrah Abraham, who arrived at the Women in Film Honors Gala on Oct. 6 matching her hair color to her odd dress — a bizarre feathered and spiked silver frock with strange chain detailing and gold embellishments. She even coordinated her hair shade to the look.

Halle Berry donned this sweet Christian Siriano design at the Celebration of Black Cinema and Television in Los Angeles on Dec. 6. The bright red dress featured short sleeves, a plunging neckline and a sweeping train detail that trailed behind the short puffed skirt. She elevated things even further with those embellished Jimmy Choo shoes.
