Nicki Minaj, Cher and Ciara release sweet, new jams while a new Elvis Presley music video pays tribute to the late legend.
Minutes after Nicki Minaj dropped her highly anticipated album, "Queen," the queen was trending on Twitter.
Her 19-song record includes features by Lil Wayne, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Future and Eminem. On "Inspirations Outro," Nicki praises Lauryn Hill and Bob Marley for their impact on her music, while on "Dreams," the she takes aim at rappers including ex-boyfriend Meek Mill, Desiigner and Young Thug.
"Shoutout Desiigner, ’cause he made it out of special ed," she raps, later dissing Young Thug. "Used to f–k with Young Thug, I ain’t addressing this shit / I caught him in my dressing rooms stealing dresses and shit."
We also have two oldies-but-goodies on this week’s #NewMusicFriday, brought to you by music royalty Cher and Elvis Presley.
Cher gifted her loving (and patient) fans a cover of ABBA’s** "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)" early Thursday morning, and it is straight dance club fire. The track that manages to feel both retro and modern is just one of the songs off the pop icon’s upcoming album, "Dancing Queen," which consists entirely of ABBA covers.
Elvis’ daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, honored her late father with an official music video for his 1967 hit, "Where No One Stands Alone." A singer-songwriter herself, Lisa appeared on the "Today" show Friday morning for her first television interview in four years, opening up about her addiction issues.
"I’ve come a long way. I was not happy. The struggle in addiction for me started at 45 years old," she said. "It wasn’t like it was happening my whole life… I have a therapist, and she was like, ‘You’re a miracle. You really are.’ She’s like, ‘I don’t know how you’re still alive.’ I’m not perfect. My father wasn’t perfect. No one’s perfect."
Elsewhere, Ciara teamed up with Tekno on "Freak Me," Stefflon Don and Tiggs Da Author dropped "Pretty Girl," Twenty One Pilots brought us "Levitate," Jake Shears released his debut self-titled album, Jason Mraz released his sixth studio album, "Know," Iconica Pop joined CMC$ and GRX on "X’s," K-Pop sensation Red Velvet dropped "Summer Magic," and Hoodie Allen came in hot with a double release — "Operation" and "Wasting All My Time."
