Piers Morgan blasted by Strictly fans over ‘unnecessary’ Dan Walker axe dig

Piers Morgan has been blasted by Strictly fans after he took a brutal and "unnecessary" swipe at Dan Walker on social media.

56-year-old Piers decided to roast the BBC presenter after Dan got booted from Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday (December 6).

Piers and Dan have a long history of trading verbal blows on Twitter as they were previously locked in a ratings battle when Piers was a breakfast host for ITV – meaning he was up against BBC Breakfast anchor Dan.

However, it seems like Piers wasn't done with his old foe just yet, because he decided to reignite their 'feud' with a savage remark after Dan left Strictly, but many fans felt like he went too far.

After being knocked out of Strictly in the quarter-finals, Dan took to Twitter to pen a sweet tribute to his professional dance partner Nadiya Bychkova.

Thanking his "great friend" Nadiya, Dan wrote: "Well… what a ride!

"#Strictly has been a truly wonderful experience for me. I enjoyed every second. @NadiyaBychkova is a superstar: kind, encouraging, funny, clever, the best teacher I could ever have hoped for & a great friend."

He added: "Thanks for the support & thanks for having us."

Dan's fans flooded the post with words of praise and encouragement following Dan's journey, but Piers had other ideas.

Instead of congratulating Dan, Piers replied: "You came fifth, mate. She needed a better pupil."

Many fans were seething at Piers comment as they rushed to defend Dan in the comments section.

One fuming fan said: "Unnecessary comment, shame people are like this. I guess it’s the world we live in"

A third said: "Absolutely no need for this tweet."

Dan's Strictly journey came to an end of Sunday after he lost the dance off against AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington.

Dan and his partner Nadiya had danced the Tango to Santa Maria by Gotan Project – which won earned 31 points from the judges.

Speaking on his exit, Dan said: "I'm not sad that it's over. I'll miss not going training with Nadiya today and learning a new dance and getting ready for the semi-final beacuse that's been the rhythm of my week for the last three months, bizarrely.

"But I'm just happy that it happened in the first place, so that's the way I'm looking at it."
