Couple had sex in an MRI scanner and it shows how penis becomes a ‘boomerang’

MRI scans of a heterosexual couple having sex revealed that an erect penis is in fact not rock hard and instead bends like a "boomerang" while getting jiggy.

In the name of science, Ida Sabelis and her boyfriend Jupp decided to get it on inside an MRI scanner so Dutch scientist Menko Victor ‘Pek’ van Andel could understand better what happens inside our bodies during intercourse.

The couple were supposed to have sex in missionary, however as the position did little for Ida, the couple scooted around inside the machine so they could shag while spooning.

The risqué experiment proffered up remarkable results alongside some incredible images evidencing the findings which went onto become the basis for a bigger study.

The two biggest findings of the experiment were that vaginas aren't straight and that penises can bend to accommodate a vagina's natural curve.

The scans of Ida and Jupp having sex – the first of their kind – revealed that an erect penis could fashion itself into the shape of a "boomarang", which meant it could bend inside to the shape of the woman's body, without causing any pain to the man.

This findings challenged the long-held belief – that can be dated back to Leonardo da Vinci times – that a man's penis went straight into a woman's vagina and came straight out again, and that vaginas were shaped like a cylinder.

The images also resulted in a more formal study, that involved more "experiments" or rather, people copulating inside an MRI scanner and which was published in in the British Medical Journal.

These later experiments were all conducted in a missionary position, and in an interview with VICE, Ida – a feminist who took part in the experiment because she wanted to deepen the medical understanding of how female bodies worked – pointed out that she and Jupp were the only couple able to complete the experiment without using Viagra.

She said: "It became pleasantly warm in the tube and we truly succeeded in enjoying each other in a familiar way.

"When I saw them [the images] it was just like, ‘aww that’s how we fit together’."

Ida and Jupp's shag-fest took place in 1991 and the study, which was published in 1999, went on to become one of the British Medical Journal's most popular papers of all time reports News.com.

Although more than 30 years have since passed, the study – and the incredible images – remain a fascination to the public, and the images were recently shared on TikTok, creating a fresh wave of interest.
