A man who was arrested for randomly knocking on the front door of a house at 1am has claimed he has “no recollection” of doing so.

The strange incident took place outside a home in the 300 block of Pinewood Street, South Florida, at the weekend.

The homeowners, who have not been named, told the man, who has also not been named, to leave, but he refused.

They called the police when the men kept asking them to “let me in”, while he was pacing around the front area of the property.

When he realised that his requested would not be granted, the man took off, running, but was stopped by police a short distance away.

He was arrested and placed in handcuffs.

During a routine search of the man, a small amount of marijuana and one Xanax pill was found.

Xanax is known to cause drowsiness and "drunk-life" effects.

He was questioned as to what was he doing knocking on the door of someone he did not know at 1 a.m.

He stated that he had been at the ”24-hour store near the Cuban place” and then added that he may have been “experiencing some paranoia” when he approached the home.

He then said he had been drinking earlier and, at that point claimed his “memory of what he was even doing in the area was blank”, reports the Palm Beach Post.

At the time he was prowling and loitering, the area was being subjected to heavy flooding from torrential rain.
