This week in Coronation Street, reality will hit Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox) as she comes to realise that Stephen Reidd (Todd Boyce) isn’t a kind and genuine partner after all.
For months Elaine has been convinced that she’s found The One, when in reality Stephen has only been in a relationship with her for the sole intention of getting his hands on a lot of cash.
One of the ways Stephen hopes to do this is through a life insurance policy. He set it up aware that if Elaine was to die, the amount of money in his bank account would suddenly increase.
With time ticking away for Stephen, he developed an idea to take Elaine on a romantic holiday in the Peak District – secretly planning to push her to her death.
As Stephen and Elaine get ready, a family photo reveals to Elaine that the woman she saw Stephan on a zoom with was actually his ex-wife, Gabrielle.
Covering her alarm, Elaine heads out and tells Tim (Joe Duttine) that Stephen has been lying to her.
As they piece together all the suspicious activity, Elaine shows Tim a metal box in which Stephen files things away. Tim manages to get it open and to his horror, finds the forged life insurance documents.
With Elaine out of the way, it’s Tim who waits for Stephen and when he arrives, he tells his enemy that the game is up and they’re going to report him to the police, leading to a struggle between the pair.
As a new week begins, Gerry – the tai-chi instructor – invites Elaine for a drink. She’s flattered, but insists that it’s too soon.
Meanwhile, after Gail (Helen Worth) and Sarah (Tina O’Brien) arrive to pick up Stephen’s things from the flat, Audrey (Sue Nicholls) asks Tim to double check with Elaine that she wanted Stephen gone.
But what’s happened?
During the confrontation, did someone get hurt?
Has this left Stephen with absolutely nothing?
