BBC Wales Today star Lucy Owen made a welcome return to screens on Tuesday (Septmeber 12), marking her first appearance on the show in three months.

The 52-year old newsreader took to X (formerly Twitter) to thanks fans for their support during her period of absence owing to health reasons.

In June, Lucy revealed she had been rushed to hospital for surgery to prevent her from her losing her sight.

Posting on social media at the time, she explained she underwent treatment after her optician noticed that she had a detached retina.

Her recovery required her to wear an eye-patch, meanwhile, and resulted in her needing time off to allow her vision to come back.

But yesterday, Lucy shared an early morning snap of herself preparing for work as she smiled whilst sitting next to a number of 'Get Well' cards.

Addressing her 33,000 followers on the platform she wrote: "Filming for Wales Today once I’m out of my PJs, first time in 3 months. Thank you so much for all your lovely messages, kept me going! These get well cards came from ⁦@tyhafan, @CP_Cymru⁩ and my beyond supportive twitter friend ⁦@siobhanx3. Thank you."

Fans were quick to express their delight at news of her comeback, with one commenting: "That's so good to hear. Looking forward to seeing you again on Wales Today."

Another responded: "Be great to see you back Lucy, missed you. Hope your feeling a lot better."

A third wrote: "Nice jim jams! Hope you are recovering well. Makes us realise the importance of having good eyes/sight."

And a fourth added: "Very very good news Lucy. Will be so lovely to see you again. I’m sure many will agree with me when I say 'I’ve missed you terribly'!"

After her appearance, meanwhile, Lucy returned to the platform to hail her first day back.

"What a treat for my first day back on Wales Today to interview the legend and literal rugby giant @AlunWynJones," she said.

"His thoughts on grassroots rugby, Wales Fiji and who’ll win the #RugbyWorldCup on BBC One Wales at 6.30. Goes without saying we did the interview sitting down."
