The Strictly Come Dancing judge has been a permanent fixture on the judging panel of the BBC show since it first started in 2004. Last year, he was forced to miss out on the shows because of coronavirus travel restrictions. Fans are assuming the 65-year-old will be back for the 2021 series, but judges are reportedly yet to make a decision on the popular judge’s return.
While he was unable to join the judging panel last year, the Italian choreographer made several video appearances on the show.
Instead of the usual four judges grading performances out of a score of 40, the 2020 show saw just three judges, with a top score of 30.
Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas judged the series, which saw Oti Mabuse and Bill Bailey crowned winners.
Speaking to GB News, Shirly admitted a decision was yet to be reached over Bruno’s appearance.
Express.co.uk has approached the BBC for a comment on this.
She said: “I do believe that Motsi is back, Bruno they are still deciding depending on the rules flying in and flying out. I know Bruno, if he can make it, he will.”
Bruno splits his time during the latter part of the year between the UK for Strictly Come Dancing and the US for Dancing With The Stars.
Shirly teased an impressive line-up for this year’s dancing competition, which airs in the autumn.
She said: “Be prepared for 13 weeks of pure joy. There will be some tweaks here and there and the line-up sounds like it’s going to be absolutely off the chart.
“Just when you think it couldn’t get any better it does and Sarah, our exec, just goes for it and she just finds all sorts of different things that are going to entertain the people in the autumn-winter months so we are very, very excited.”
Early last year, viewers were unsure if the show would even go ahead aid a flurry of cancelled shows in the midst of the pandemic.
But BBC producers managed to make it work, with a nine-week show launching as opposed to the usual 13 weeks.
Strict rules were in place for the contestants in order to safely maintain a social distance, while the couples were in their own bubble.
Due to restrictions, the usual Blackpool week, which sees contestants take to the famous Tower Ballroom, wasn’t able to take place last year.
It’s been rumoured that the show will be able to include this popular feature in the upcoming series.
The upcoming instalment will be the nineteenth series, and as summer draws closer, more speculation is being made about a potential line-up.
Among the rumoured faces to appear are Line of Duty’s Gregory Piper, TV presenter Stacey Solomon and Good Morning Britain presenter Alex Beresford.
Others include fitness expert Joe Wicks and Gogglebox favourite Tom Mallone.
Strictly Come Dancing is set to return later this year to BBC One.
