Coronation Street‘s Sally Metcalfe faced a crushing setback in her bid to clear her name in Wednesday’s (September 19) double bill when she was sent to jail.
Everything looked like it was on the up-and-up when we left off in Tuesday’s second instalment, which saw the return of ‘Smug Sally’ as she gleefully exposed her co-accused’s attorney Imran Habeeb (Charlie de Melo) for two-timing sisters Leanne and Toyah.
Unfortunately for Sally (Sally Dynevor), her actions had consequences after making a series of reckless decisions in both of Wednesday’s episode. First, she sacked Paula (Stirling Gallacher) after discovering her trysts with Sophie and then she contacted one of the people on Imran’s witness list.
When Sally turned up at court without a solicitor, intent on representing herself, Imran revealed to the judge that she’d attempted to intimidate a key witness in the case.
A desperate Sally tried her best to appeal the judge’s humanity, insisting in a passionate plea that she was being framed for a crime that she never actually committed in the first place.
But the judge wasn’t swayed, ordering Sally to be remanded to the local jail pending trial and seeing her off from the courtroom into immediate custody.
Corrie fans watching at home were busy voicing their surprise on social media this evening, with a whole host of enthralled viewers taking to Twitter in reaction to these dramatic scenes.
Looking ahead at the possibility of Sally spending the foreseeable future behind bars, actress Sally Dynevor has promised even more exciting twists and turns as her trial looms.
“I’m really excited about seeing her out of her comfort zone and how it will affect her,” the actress hinted.
“She will no doubt make some enemies, Sally is never going to sit back and do nothing! She will try and make something good come out of the worst possible scenario.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
