Coronation Street's Zeedan Nadir is on his way back to Weatherfield after a three-year absence – but what seedy secret is he hiding and how will it impact on his family?

Qasim Akhtar, who plays Zeedan, has started filming his return scenes and will be back on screen from mid-September as he rejoins the Nazir family.

However, it's not guaranteed to be a joyful family reunion as it sounds as though Zeedan will be bringing an awful lot of trouble with him.

Zeedan will make his return for grandmother Yasmeen's (Shelley King) birthday, and she'll be surprised to see her grandson back in town.

When he comes back to the cobbles, Zeedan will see his business financially struggling after sister Alya (Sair Khan) fell for a bank scam.

He offers to sort out the business's money worries by paying off Alya's debts, but the family begin to question how he can afford to bail them out.

And when Zeedan is later attacked in the street by two thugs, they start to wonder whether the attack could have something to do with his new-found wealth.

With Yasmeen having suffered a traumatic past year in the grip of an abusive, controlling relationship, the last thing she needs in her life is more trouble – but it looks as though that's exactly what Zeedan will be bringing with him.

Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod added: “Qasim is a fantastic actor and Zeedan is a character with tonnes of connections in the show, so I’m really excited to bring him back in what will be a really juicy story for the Nazirs.

"Zeedan has made some mistakes while he’s been off screen but he’s determined to be a better man. However, the path to redemption is strewn with pitfalls and Alya and Yasmeen end up getting sucked into the trouble that follows him to Weatherfield from his old life, threatening what promises to be Yasmeen’s fairytale ending, after her ordeal at the hands of Geoff."
