EastEnders fans are slamming BBC bosses for their lack-lustre tribute to soap icon Bill Treacher.
Bill, who played Pauline's husband Arthur Fowler from the show's launch in 1985, died aged 92 on Saturday after a series of health issues.
As tributes pour in, viewers were geared up for a tribute photo to appear on tonight’s episode, but were left disappointed after just one sentence by the narrator, appearing at the beginning of the episode, was all that was offered up by the BBC.
“No tribute to Bill Treacher at the end of @bbceastenders,” said one fan.
A second commented in response: “was thinking the same thing? Could have shown a pic or something!”
Another fan echoed the sentiment, stating: “That tribute at the beginning of EastEnders was lovely but excepted something a bit more. Bit of a weak gesture for such a ledge!!”
The episode started with the announcer stating: “Now on BBC One, a mention for EastEnders actor Bill Treacher who sadly passed away.
“Back in Walford now. Suki is under arrest.”
Another fan even commented on how The One Show paid a better tribute to the soap icon than the soap itself.
“Sorry but The One Show did a nicer tribute to Bill Treacher than EastEnders did what’s that all about?”
A statement Treacher’s family said: “The family of the actor Bill Treacher are sad to announce that Bill died late Saturday night, 5 November 2022.
“He was 92 years old and his health had been declining for some time. He was much loved by his wife, Kate, his son, Jamie and his daughter, Sophie.
“Bill was a brilliant actor and a wonderful husband and father, plus a very fine human being.
"He will be hugely missed. The family respectfully request privacy at this time.”
A spokeswoman for EastEnders said: “It is with great sadness that we learnt of the passing of Bill Treacher.
"As one of our original cast members, Bill created a much-loved character in Arthur Fowler and, alongside Wendy Richard, they created an iconic family in the Fowlers who still remain at the heart of the show."
