Max Branning, played by Jake Wood, recently learned daughter Abi Branning was “brain stem dead” – but he vowed to find a way to save her.

Next week on EastEnders, Max is still doing everything he can to defy the doctors’ plans to switch off Abi’s life support machine.

Lauren Branning, struggling with the news about her sister after their recent horror fall from a roof, has pleaded with her dad to accept Abi is “dead”.

But Max becomes desperate in upcoming scenes, overcome with guilt and grief for his daughter – leading to a harsh reality check from the doctor at the hospital.

Lauren is forced to step in when Max threatens the staff, insisting his daughter can still be saved after being diagnosed with a  catastrophic brain injury.

Things escalate as Max’s family desperately try to get through to him and ask him to let Abi go.

Max remains in turmoil, struggling to keep things together – but a delivery from Jay Brown, meant for Abi, gives him something to focus on.

Abi, who was 7 months pregnant when she fell off the Queen Vic roof with sister Lauren on Christmas Day, ordered a crib for her little one.

The doctors have since delivered Abi’s baby girl, but have revealed nothing can be done for the new mum played by Lorna Fitzgerald.

But as Max builds the cot together he ends up destroying it as he’s overcome with grief, with brother Jack Branning comforting him.

Dot Cotton arrives, devastated over the news about granddaughter Abi – can she get through to Max?

Lauren tries to encourage Max to go to the hospital, and as the day they’ve been dreading arrives viewers will have to see whether Max can accept the inevitable.
