Emmerdale has seemingly confirmed Lachlan White’s reign of terror is over.
The police discovered the full extent of his crimes after Rebecca White returned to the village.
Flashbacks built the full picture as it was revealed that sinister nurse Mrs Sykes left her on the roadside.
In his final scene, Lachlan attempted to barter with the police for information on her whereabouts, but they said he was going away for a "very long time".
Actor Thomas Atkinson, who was highly praised for his portrayal of Lachlan, revealed it would be the last we see of his character for now.
Speaking about his exit, he said: "So after all this time, after everything Lachlan has done, it has all finally caught up with him. He’s been caught by the police.
"Over the last four years I’ve grown up here. I figured it out I’ve spent a quarter of my life here which is a long time."
The actor said his highlight had been the brutal car crash which saw Lachlan kill his mum and granddad.
He thanked the Emmerdale fanbase for their "amazing support" during his time on the show.
On whether he would return, Thomas said: "Will he be back? I don’t know – you’ll have to ask the soap gods about that.
"He’s not dying, he’s going to prison. Will there be a trial? We’ll have to see."
Emmerdale viewers took to Twitter to praise Thomas for his last performance.
One viewer said: "Tom’s been amazing as Lachlan, he’s a truly talented actor. I hope Lachlan returns as I doubt that was his final scene, but if not, Tom will go on to have a great career I’m sure."
Another added: "Tom has been incredible to watch. He’s a phenomenal actor and portrayed Lachlan brilliantly."
A third said: "Going to miss Tom on our screens he’s been absolutely incredible!"
*Emmerdale continues on Thursday night on ITV at 7pm
