For Her Sins: Jo Joyner stars in Channel 5 trailer
For Her Sins is coming to Channel 5 this week and the series has a dark yet compelling story at its heart.
When a mysterious stranger approaches Laura Conroy’s daughter Eliza, Laura instantly judges her.
But as the pair get to know one another over time, Laura is drawn in by Emily Furness’s manipulative ways.
The synopsis reads: “Laura is unwittingly led down an increasingly dangerous path as Emily sets about infiltrating her life and poisoning it from the inside.
“And she’s persuaded a journalist to help her take Laura down too. But why?”
Who is in For Her Sins?
Laura Conroy – Jo Joyner
Laura is a woman who appears to have it all, from a loving husband to two beautiful children and a successful career as a lawyer.
However, behind closed doors she finds her work-life balance impossible to manage.
She is played by Jo Joyner, a 46-year-old actress known for playing Tanya Branning in EastEnders.
The star also appeared as Mandy Carter in Ackley Bridge and Luella Shakespeare in Shakespeare and Hathaway: Private Investigators.
On why she was attracted to For Her Sins, she said: “I’ve done 25 years of playing partnerships, but it isn’t since No Angels that I’ve been involved in a partnership that’s involved other women closely.
“To do a show where it centres around these two women and their relationship and exploring that is just brilliant.”
Emily Furness – Rachel Shenton
Emily is beautiful and smart, but has a dark past and is scarred by tragedy.
She grew up having to fend for herself and learnt to use her wits, emotional intelligence and beauty to survive and get what she wants.
The master manipulator is played by Rachel Shenton, best known for playing Helen Alderson in All Creatures Great and Small.
She initially rose to fame following her role as Mitzeee Minniver in Hollyoaks.
Speaking of her new role she said: “What I liked about Emily – and I did like her when I first read it – is I understood her even if I didn’t agree with her.
“That’s a really good place to work from.”

Like any married couple, they have their different approaches to parenthood and sometimes clash.
Rob is played by Duncan Pow, a 45-year-old Scottish actor known for his roles in Dream Team and Holby City.
The star also played Ruescott Melshi in the Star Wars film Rogue One.
Eliza Conroy – Romi Hyland-Rylands
Eliza is Laura’s seven-year-old daughter who is going through a difficult time in her school life.
She is played by Romi Hyland-Rylands, a young actress who made her professional debut at the Liverpool Playhouse in the musical production of Miracle on 34th Street.
Her first TV role was opposite Martin Freeman in the BBC series The Responder.

She and her daughter are close, but they have their differences and do not always see eye to eye.
Maggie is played by Ann Mitchell, an 84-year-old actress known for her roles in Widows and Through the Leaves.
Coincidentally, she and Jo Joyner have played mother and daughter before, with Ann starring as Tanya’s mother Cora in EastEnders.
On working together again, she said: “I was absolutely thrilled. It was lovely to see her again.
“The first time we met on this I remember it was on location and the sun was shining and she and Rachel came out of makeup, and it was just lovely to see Jo with the sun shining behind her. She looked golden.”
Tom – Ansu Kabia
Lawyer Tom is Laura’s colleague and old flame, and there is still some chemistry between the pair.
Tom is played by Ansu Kabia, a theatre and film actor known for playing Moses in Miss Scarlet and the Duke.
His other credits include The Sandman, World on Fire and I May Destroy You.
For Her Sins airs on Channel 5 from Monday, June 5 at 9pm.
