GMB's Charlotte Hawkins makes awkward gaffe and jokes about 'wishing the time away'

GOOD Morning Britain presenter Charlotte Hawkins suffered an awkward gaffe on today's show when she accidentally announced the wrong time.

The 46-year-old was welcoming viewers back to screens after the morning weather update when she got a little bit tongue-tied and said that it was eight o'clock when in fact it was seven o'clock.

The broadcaster was teasing the show's top story alongside co-host Sean Fletcher when she made the early morning slip-up.

She began: "Good Morning Britain, it's just gone eight o'clock. Our top story this morning is Taliban have proclaimed…

"Sorry seven o'clock, I'm wishing the time away then, wasn't I?

"I could hear everyone in my ear saying, 'oh no she's not done something quite right there'. I didn't take a breath," she added.

A stunned Sean commented: "I was going to say, I let you go on with that".

Following the slip-up, Charlotte apologised to viewers, joking that they weren't "really late" this morning and continued with the news.

The former Strictly star continued: "I do apologise, don't worry you're not really late for whatever you think you might have missed this morning
it's just gone seven o'clock."

Charlotte's slip comes a week she took a thinly-veiled swipe at the show's ever-changing line-up.

TAKING SWIPE

The ITV breakfast show has come under fire for it's rotating door of presenters since Piers Morgan sensationally quit the programme back in March.

And Charlotte couldn't hide her own views on the situation as she kicked off last Tuesday's show alongside Ranvir Singh – calling the line-up "presenter bingo".

Taking over host duties at 6.30am, the two women mused that they very rarely work together – despite both being regular faces on GMB.

Ranvir told viewers: "Charlotte and I are never normally in the same place at the same time, are we?"

Her co-star replied: "We're not! This is a rare treat.

"It's kind of presenter bingo at the moment though, you never quite know who's going to turn up… But we have a few days together, which'll be lovely."

Piers presented Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna Reid for five years before his shock exit five months ago.

Since his departure, Susanna has been joined by several guest co-hosts, including Richard Bacon, Richard Madeley, and Alastair Campbell.

She is currently on her usual summer break, with the show's other favourites hosting on a makeshift rota.

In addition to Charlotte and Ranvir, Alex Beresford, Sean Fletcher, Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway are regular front-people for the programme.

Piers famously stormed off set after clashing with co-star Alex in a tense debate over Meghan Markle, quitting the show entirely later that same day.
