How long will Ruthie Henshall be in Coronation Street?

Award-winning actress Ruthie Henshall has made her debut in Coronation Street as Estelle, an old friend of Rovers Return barmaid Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger)

The 56-year-old swapped the stage for the cobbles earlier this month, with her first appearance coming on April 3.

And her character’s got Glenda considering her options, hinting at a possible exit for the former cruise ship singer – but just how long can we expect to see Ruthie in Weatherfield?

Here’s what you need to know…

How long is Ruthie Henshall in Coronation Street?

It’s not been confirmed how long Ruthie’s character Estelle will be sticking around Weatherfield.

However the actress has confirmed that her role is a guest one – which suggests that the character will not become a permanent fixture on the cobbles.

Her character, Estelle, knows Glenda from their time performing on cruise ships, and she was first seen in Coronation Street arguing with George (Tony Maudsley) about the cost of her mother’s funeral.

She explained to George and Todd that she is now the co-owner of a performing arts club for children, and that anybody can buy into the franchise and open their own branch.

All of which gets Glenda considering her options – and viewers wondering if this could mark her exit from the soap.

Speaking about the once-in-a-lifetime role, Ruthie – full name Valentine Ruth Henshall – said: ‘This is one of the most enjoyable guest roles of my career.

‘Everyone is so welcoming and I can’t believe after years of the street being in my life that I finally get to tread the cobbles.’

She was also keen to sing the praises of her co-stars: ‘Getting to act with Jodie was a joy and every member of the cast was welcoming and kind.’

Of her new character, she teased: ‘Estelle is delighted to find her old friend Glenda and share a show tune or two to remember times spent entertaining on board cruises.

‘I am so excited and delighted to be on the street where so many brilliant actors strut, and have strutted, their stuff.’

Coronation Street continues on ITV on Monday night at 8pm.
