John Barrowman blasts cancel culture and says he’s ready to ‘move on’ from scandal

John Barrowman has blasted cancel culture and said he’s ready to “move on” after being accused of inappropriate on-set behaviour.

The 54-year-old was accused of exposing himself on set of Doctor Who and its spin off show, Torchwood. He claimed the act was “tomfoolery” and to “entertain colleagues” but the witnesses said they were “inappropriate pranks.”

The actor appeared on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain via videolink and host Richard Madeley started the chat by addressing the “elephant in the room” and pointing out that while the allegations could have “sunk John's] career," they have not.

The 65 year old presenter began: “Ok, let’s get the difficult one out of the way first shall we, let's deal with the elephant in the room.

"A lot of people in this country would have assumed that your career was over when all of the reports came out about this party trick that you used to do that was basically exposing yourself in front of colleagues, which you thought was very funny at the time.

“All of this came out and it would have seen to many of us that this would have sunk your career, but here you are with brand new projects, how have you turned it around?”

John repeated his previous comment, that his actions were a “silly” form of fun onset, and that everybody who witnessed them “enjoyed” it and “laughed” along with him.

The actor said: “Well I don’t think it’s me whose turned it around I think the public realised it was silliness, tomfoolery and not sexual harassment.”

The former Dancing on Ice judge was axed from the show after the allegations and replaced by Strictly Come Dancing’s Oti Mabuse when the incident came to light.

He added: “And also cancel culture, they’ve tried to strip my career over 35 years that I’ve worked very hard with and had a lot of fun in and have been very open about all of the silliness that went on.

“All the stories are nothing new, they’ve been out there for years and I’ve written about them in my autobiography.

"But cancel culture are like hyenas that are trying to strip the meat of the bones until there’s nothing left.”

The performer admitted he was “over it” and has “moved on” and thought that the public had too.

He said: "I think everybody else has moved on. I just, cancel culture has gone way too far.”
