TV presenter Jonnie Irwin was rushed back to hospital after contracting jaundice during his lengthy cancer battle.
The A Place In The Sun presenter is set to celebrate his 50th birthday on November 18 – a day which he didn’t think he would live to see. But his birthday plans to fly to Spain may have to be put on hold after his recent bout of illness.
Since he was diagnosed with lung cancer back in August 2020, the TV presenter have been bravely documenting his health battle online. In recent months, the star revealed his cancer has spread to his brain, meaning that his condition is terminal.

Giving fans his latest update, he posted a snap of himself in his pyjamas putting his feet up in a hospital bed. In another post, he shared a clip of him on TV could be seen in the background.
In the caption, the doting dad-of-three revealed that he had been admitted to hospital on Friday (November 10) with jaundice, but doctors had also found other health issues. He wrote: “Back in hospital been in since Friday with jaundice.
“I had a fever and acute stabbing pain in my right-hand side. Turns out I probably had an infection and other issues which I won’t bore you with. The broadcaster continued: “Been on drips, regular bloods taken and have observations every 4 hours through day and night.
“Didn’t think I'd be watching @bbcmorninglive from a hospital bed but it’s just part of the rollercoaster life that this illness throws at you. I must admit I was especially touched by the birthday message from the team for my birthday this coming Friday – thanks very much.”
Hoping for more positive news from doctors, Jonnie went on: “I have another scan today followed by a meeting with my oncologist so fingers crossed for positive news #mellowyellow #yellowman #rollercoaster #bedrest #livingwithcancer #jaundice #cancer #fight.”
The TV star, who shares son Rex, five, and three-year-old twin boys Rafa and Cormac with wife Jessica Holmes, was inundated with messages of support from his famous friends and loyal fans online. His A Place In The Sun co-star Laura Hamilton wrote: “Sending love.”
Others shared their words of encouragement, with one writing: “Praying for you Jonnie. Keep strong.” Another echoed: “Have a candle lit for you that the news will be good and will keep you and your beautiful family in my prayers.”
A third echoed: “Sending love to you and your family. I have bone marrow tomorrow and scans last week so I feel for you on this big C rollercoaster, we are all just clinging on waiting for the best bits.” A fourth chimed in with: “Sending buckets of love, hugs, doggo licks and strength, thinking of you all and willing you to get back to your super fab family.”

A fifth added: “I turned 50 on the 7th of November. I set a reminder in my phone for your birthday on the 18th @jonnieirwintv you got this mate. Positive thinking and prayers coming your way.” When the star first received his diagnosis, Jonnie was told he wouldn’t live to see his twins’ third birthday.
Five months on and the star is focusing on living his best life with his friends and family. As his 50th birthday approaches, Jonnie revealed he and his family are planning to travel to Spain to celebrate the milestone moment while they wait for the results to come back from his radiotherapy treatments.
He said: “I never thought I'd be here. I’m really looking forward to some time with Jess and the boys.”
