Fans have said that Holby City's Lee Mead looked "unrecognisable without gorgeous curls" as he debuted his new hair transplant on This Morning.

Chatting to Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary on Friday morning (February 3), the former Holby City appeared on the ITV1 show.

The 41-year-old Holby City star, who is also known for a stint in Motherland, is best known for winning the title role in the 2007 West End revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat through the BBC's Any Dream Will Do.

He shocked viewers of This Morning when he sat on the sofa and spoke about how he recently shaved off his famous curly hair to undergo a hair transplant in Turkey.

Lee told the hosts how he recently went to the Hair of Istanbul, a hair transplantation clinic, to get his hairline brought forward.

The clinic offers "micro surgery" to anyone between the ages of 18 and 60 "who have experienced hair loss for any cause".

Looking incredibly confident on the show, he spoke Alison and Dermot through what the surgery he had entailed, explaining that it took seven hours.

Fans were completely taken aback by his new look, with one taking to Twitter to say: "He looks unrecognisable without his gorgeous curls."

"Impostor! He can’t possibly be Lee Mead! Where’s his curls?!" asked another baffled viewer.

"He doesn’t look like Lee Mead lol," penned a third.

While a fourth said: "He suits it either way."

"You look lovely like this," said Alison, before asking him if he's be growing his curls back.

Lee then explained how his partner likes his hair like it is now and thinks it's "quite sexy".

This comes after Lee admitted on Instagram that he had been hiding his receding hairline but after his surgery felt "more confident already".

Taking to his social media after his transplant, the West End star – who has a daughter with ex Denise Van Outen – said he was a bit "sore" but added that he was very pleased to have had it done.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV
