MEGHAN has loyal friends in Hollywood working to bolster her image – but she entrusted only her mum with a top secret mission to protect her reputation.
I can reveal Doria Ragland, who is currently preparing to head to Windsor for the imminent arrival of Baby Sussex, was previously dispatched by the Duchess of Sussex to confront her ex-husband Trevor Engelson about his plans to launch a TV comedy based on the couple’s failed marriage.
The comedy was one of the most talked about US shows in development, with the executive producer of mega hit Modern Family working on it with Trevor through Fox Studios.
The plot saw the ex-husband of a British princess struggle with having to share custody of their (fictitious) child with a princess in England.
Fearing obvious comparisons to her marriage to Prince Harry, Meghan was heavily opposed to the comedy, especially as it planned to mock the royal romance on a weekly basis. Doria, who by all accounts is an adorable woman, is believed to have maintained a friendly relationship with Trevor – and her intervention seems to have worked. He ended up agreeing to drop the comedy altogether.
Meghan and Trevor got together in 2004 and married in 2011. He was a producer on shows including License To Wed and All About Steve, she was appearing on legal drama Suits.
But they split bitterly in 2013.
Author Andrew Morton claimed in 2018’s Meghan: A Hollywood Princess that she dumped Trevor “totally out of the blue” and returned her wedding and engagement rings in the post.
According to a pal, referenced in the book, he was left feeling “like he was a piece of something stuck to the bottom of her shoe”.
Trevor is now working as executive producer on FX hit Snowfall and Netflix film 13 Minutes. Last October he re-married, to dietitian Tracey Kurland, after a five-month engagement.
But clearly it’s his previous relationship with Meghan which the public has the most appetite to know about.
Don's younger model
DON McLean is lining up a new Mrs American Pie in the shape of his 24-year-old girlfriend.
The folk icon stunned fans by coupling up with Playboy pin-up Paris Dylan last year.
Now Don has his sights set on walking down the aisle for a third time with his girlfriend, who is 49 years his junior.
Don said: “We’re together all the time. We’re going to be together forever, I think.
“We like each other a lot. She knows a lot of stuff, very helpful. And it just happened that way, like things do.”
Don went public with Paris – well known for appearing on Catfish – in October, though they have known each other since 2016.
He separated from 60-year-old wife Patrisha after 29 years of marriage, seven months before he and Paris were first pictured together.
Don talked about the romance during a career retrospective at the LA Grammy Museum. He also said: “My goal in life – I say this now as a 73-year-old guy – was never to have a job.”
As massive royalties roll in every year for American Pie, it’s unlikely Paris – who calls him the love of her life – will need one either.
