Middle-aged Love Island spin-off is open to single mums and dads

The Love Island main series is coming to a close, with ITV2 confirming the final episode will air on Monday, August 1.

Viewers may be at a loss for what to do in their evenings once it’s over, but thankfully there is plenty come coming from the villa.

A middle-aged spin-off is reportedly in development, making it a major departure from what fans are used to.

In the main show, this year Michael Owen’s, 42, daughter Gemma is just 19 years old, but in the spin-off, people the age of her dad would be having a go at the series.

What is the Love Island spin-off show?

ITV have not officially confirmed the Love Island spin-off yet, though an insider has uncovered the details of the show to The Sun.

They stated: “This show will give those who settled down young a second chance at love while they still feel in their prime.

“Let’s face it, they know their minds, will be capable of intelligent conversation and are likely to be much more adventurous — all ingredients regular Love Island sometimes lacks.”

The series’ working title is reportedly Your Mum, My Dad, with the aim of it airing in 2023 after filming commences later this year.

How old do you have to be on middle-aged Love Island?

The show will be tailored for people in their 40s and 50s, particularly looking at single parents that are hoping for another chance at love.

The source explained: “Times change and the current generation in their 40s and 50s still care about how they look, are fit and healthy, into fashion and are ready to let their hair down.”

It isn’t clear if people can be slightly younger or older than that estimate, but already those ages would make the series very different from the original show.

What other Love Island spin-offs are there?

Along with this proposed middle-aged spin-off, Winter Love Island is set to return in 2023 as well.

ITV announced that the second season of the South African-based show will begin airing in the New Year, meaning there is just a few short months to wait.

The first season aired in 2020 with Paige Turley and Finn Tapp winning that year.
