Richard Osman pays emotional tribute to Alexander Armstrong in final Pointless farewell | The Sun

RICHARD Osman shared a “lovely” heartfelt moment with his Pointless co-host Alexander Armstrong on his last day of filming.

Richard, 51, announced he would be leaving the BBC quiz show, which he co-hosts with Alexander 52, in April and his last episode aired on Wednesday.

After introducing the episode, Richard launched into a heartfelt tribute. However, he hadn’t yet announced that this would be his last episode of Pointless.

He began the emotional exchange by explaining: “I was just in an interview, and they always ask about Pointless at the end of it.”

Richard continued: “They always say, ‘And how’s Pointless?’ and they say, ‘What’s Xander like?’

“And I always say how lovely you are, and it occurred to me, I don’t tell you in person often enough.

“So I just want to say how lucky I am to work with you.”

“Aw,” Alexander replied appreciatively. At the same time he started waving it hand to his face, indicating he was starting to get emotional.

Richard continued: “I always think after the end of interviews, ‘I must tell Xander in person,’ which I never do.

“So, now I’ll tell you on telly.”

“That’s the nicest thing in the world,” Alexander replied, appearing visibly touched by Richard’s words.

“Well, it’s an absolute pleasure,” Richard added thoughtfully.

“Well, now I get the opportunity, I hope, to tell you the same thing,” Alexander said, before his co-host quipped, “well, if it were true,” and the pair began laughing.

After the episode aired on Wednesday, Richard took to Twitter to explain to fans that the episode had been his last.

“I will still be on screen for a while in repeats, but yesterday was my final ever episode of daytime #Pointless after 12 years,” he said.

Richard added: “Only Xander and I knew that at time of recording, so I wanted to give him a heartfelt message.”

Alexander and Richard have been hosting the show together for 12 years, so the pair were visibly emotional about saying goodbye. However, Richard acknowledged it’s time for him to move on.

In a Twitter message from April, Richard explained that he will be taking the time to focus on other projects, like writing. Fans will likely see him add to his written works, which include The Thursday Murder Club, The Man Who Died Twice, and his upcoming novel, The Bullet That Missed.

The BBC also confirmed that he will continue to co-host Pointless Celebrities and his BBC Two show, Richard Osman’s House of Games.

Meanwhile, Alexander will continue to host Pointless and will be joined by several new co-hosts, including Sally Lindsay, Konnie Huq, Alex Brooker and Ed Gamble.
