Viewers were finally given some insight into the mysterious backstory of Agent Nick Torres (played by Wilmer Valderrama) in the new episode of NCIS. Unfortunately, the climax of episode 12, ‘Sangre’, ruffled some feathers on Twitter as the series continued this week on CBS.

Guest star Steven Bauer finally made his debut as Miguel Torres during this week’s latest instalment of NCIS season 18.

The series took a surprise break last week as CBS initiated a scheduling shake-up following breaking news.

Thankfully, the popular crime series was back in full swing on Tuesday night, and Nick Torres finally revealed some of his elusive family history.

‘Sangre’ opened with a flashback to the agent’s childhood in the late 1980s, one of the first moments from his past that fans have seen in the series.

After revealing Torres’ father Miguel had abandoned his family under strange circumstances, they reunited years later after his hair was found at the scene of another grisly murder.

As the NCIS team’s latest case unfolded, Miguel eventually revealed he was forced to leave his family in Panama as he was working undercover and feared being exposed.

While Torres’ first parent introduced in the series was far from perfect, praise for guest star Steven Bauer’s performance poured in on Twitter as the episode aired on CBS.

One fan said: “Loved tonight’s ‘Sangre’ episode, but we must see Nick’s dad again. Steven Bauer was perfect: they even looked alike!”

The audience was rattled when the episode’s climactic shootout resulted in Miguel taking several shots to the chest.

Thankfully, the latest addition to the team revealed he had wisely packed a bullet proof vest for the occasion, and Torres was relieved to discover he wasn’t about to lose his father for a second time.

However, many fans felt cheated out of some long awaited Torres reconciliation as Miguel once again skipped town without saying goodbye to his son.

“Damn. That was a BANGING episode of #NCIS!” another fan wrote. “I’m going to need Steven Bauer to return at least once next season.

“Plus that angsty ending leaves plenty of room for future father/son drama!”

Bauer’s swift exit from the series has certainly raised hopes that NCIS could have another regular guest star when season 19 eventually gets underway.

Even so, this didn’t stop a number of viewers fuming when they saw Torres had been let down by his father for a second time, turning to the newly suspended Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) for comfort.

Another fan posted: “And the award for worst father of a NCIS agent of the year goes to….. Miguel Torres.”

And a final viewer said: “We all know that maybe Miguel is Nick’s biological father but Gibbs is really Nick’s dad.”

Now Gibbs has been forced to step down as Special Agent in Charge, he’ll hopefully have much more time to give Torres some much needed fatherly advice in the coming episodes.

Mark Harmon’s future on the series is currently unclear, though he’ll at least be returning in some capacity for the recently confirmed 19th season, expected later this year.

While Miguel may not ever show his face again after his disappointing reunion in ‘Sangre’, Torres still has a hero he can turn to as long as Gibbs remains the heart and soul of the series.

NCIS season 18 continues Tuesday, May 4 on CBS.
