Nigella Lawson stuns fans with odd use for shower cap while baking bread

Nigella Lawson was on BBC Two for her Christmas special of Cook, Eat, Repeat and showed fans how to make a special black bread – with an odd hack using a shower cap.

The cooking guru, 60, put a shower cap on over her bowl of dough while leaving it to prove.

Stirring the dough until it becomes a "dense sticky mixture", Nigella sticks a rather snazzy leopard print shower cap over the top of the bowl.

She explains: "All it needs from me is to cover it to prove for about 16 hours or until it's really risen in volume with a wonderfully spongy surface."

The black bread recipe looked decadent with a list of ingredients including Irish stout, dark rye flour, and nigella seeds.

Nigella served it up with smoked salmon and a sprinkle of dill.

Her fans didn't fail to notice the ingenious use of the shower cap and noted the interesting, waste-saving hack on Twitter.

One person commented: "Sat here Aperol spritz in hand contemplating making them right now #CookEatRepeat love the shower cap on the bowl for proving."

Another eagle-eyed viewer asked: "Anyone else just purchased a leopard print shower cap specifically to cover bread dough when proving? @Nigella_Lawson #CookEatRepeat."

Someone else gushed: "Just saw using a shower cap to put over a bowl to prove, that’s such a good idea!"

Meanwhile, someone else mused about how the beautiful background scenery was made – with a snowy Christmas wonderland visible outside the kitchen window.

Nigella herself replied: "No, nothing is green screen. But we did have a snow machine."

This comes after she stunned viewers with her unique way of pronouncing the word "microwave", and shared her secret ingredient to take chilli-con-carne up to the next level.
