SKY News presenter Kay Burley has revealed she was forced off air following an allergic reaction.

The 62-year-old shared a shocking snap of her swollen face as she explained her absence to fans.

Kay wrote on Instagram: "When allergies prevent you from being on the TV.

"Sorry to have missed you all today."

Kay – who first joined Sky News in 1988 – has not been back at work since missing the breakfast show on Thursday.

The veteran host presents four days a week, with Anna Jones taking over on Fridays.

Kay has not gone into detail about the allergic reaction which caused her to be off sick.

The anchor was last making headlines herself in the summer when she revealed she was fasting for 10 days.

She shared her journey with social media followers as she undertook the challenge in August.

"This is part of a 10 day fasting experience, i'm a little bit anxious, I have to say," she explained as she lifted her mug of herbal tea.
