Craig Doyle has gone down a storm with This Morning viewers as he made his presenting debut on the popular ITV morning programme alongside Alison Hammond, 47, on Monday 2 May.
It was announced prior to today’s show thata newcomer would be hosting with Alison, who usually presents This Morning with Dermot O’Leary.
Craig, 51, has made appearances on the daytime talk show, but this is the first time he has been on the couch as a presenter.
This Morning viewers have since taken to social media to gush over Craig, and called for him to become a permanent member of the show.
“I really like Craig Doyle! @thismorning should have him on more often! #ThisMorning”, wrote one person, as someone else said: “Craig is a welcome addition to the presenting panel, certainly a lot more competent than some. #thismorning”.
“Craig is a breath of Irish air, professional, natural and charmingly Irish. A combo of Craig and Josie would be ideal,” penned another viewer, as a fourth person said: “Craig Doyle and @AlisonHammond forever please @ITV #ThisMorning Sorry @radioleary”.
“Can we have Craig Doyle on every day please and get rid of Schofield! Brilliant presenter #ThisMorning,” said someone else.
“Craig and Alison are great together and Craig is a revelation! The new presenters are all excellent and a breath of fresh air on the show,” another person went on.
Prior to hosting the show today, Craig – who hails from Dublin, Ireland – shared a snap of himself outside ITV’s studios on Sunday 1 May, and quipped that he was “14 hours early to work”.
In the photo, Craig could be seen with his suitcase as he stood outside the ITV building with a huge grin on his face.
Alison then re-shared the image to her own Story as a mark of support.
While Craig isn’t a regular face on This Morning, he’s not new to the TV game, and has worked for the likes of the BBC and ITV and more recently BT Sport.
Irish viewers also know him as the host of RTÉ One chat show Tonight with Craig Doyle and RTÉ Two's Craig Doyle Live.
Others might also recognise Craig as a blast from the past as he used to host the children's programme Diggit on GMTV from 1998 to 2002 with Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates.
It’s thought that one of Craig’s most recent segments for This Morning was filmed around five weeks ago, when the 51 year old took the ITV crew to see some of Ireland’s beautiful sights.
Sharing a series of snaps with the crew, one where they can all be seen drinking a pint of Guinness, Craig wrote: “The loveliest few days on @thismorning showing off Ireland with some family cameos. Thanks to @scottishadam and his brilliant crew."
