Britney Spears issues cease and desist letter to sister Jamie Lynn telling her she will ‘no longer be bullied’ and calling for her to stop mentioning her during her new book’s promo tour
- The 40-year-old popstar’s lawyer wrote a stinging letter to her younger sister
- Britney’s legal team said Jamie Lynn’s new book contains ‘outrageous claims’
- Jamie Lynn is currently giving interviews on a promotional tour for the book
- The letter threatens legal action should Jamie Lynn not comply with the demand
Britney Spears has sent a cease-and-desist letter ordering her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, to stop talking about her.
The ‘Toxic’ hitmaker’s legal team want the ‘Zoey 101’ actress to stop discussing the 40-year-old pop star’s life and struggles when she’s giving interviews to promote her new memoir.
Jamie Lynn is currently on a promotional tour for her new book ‘Things I Should Have Said’, which Britney’s legal counsel said contains ‘misleading and outrageous claims’ about her.
Now, lawyer Mathew Rosengart has written a stinging letter to Jamie Lynn, demanding that she ‘cease and desist from referencing Britney derogatorily’ and threatening ‘all appropriate legal action’ should the actress not comply.
‘We write with some hesitation because the last thing Britney wants is to bring more attention to your ill-timed book and its misleading or outrageous claims about her,’ the letter read.
‘Although Britney has not read and does not intend to read your book, she and millions of her fans were shocked to see how you have exploited her for monetary gain. She will not tolerate it, nor should she.’
The letter comes as Britney hit out against Jamie Lynn and her mother Lynne in a fiery Instagram post in which she said she should have slapped them both ‘across their f***ing faces’.

After years under a conservatorship overseen by her father, Jamie Spears, Rosengart stressed Britney will not be ‘bullied’ by anyone any more.
The letter continued: ‘You of all people know the abuse and wrongdoing Britney had to endure during the conservatorship, after initially growing up with a ‘ruinous,’ alcoholic father.
‘In fact, your own book reportedly states that your father ‘spent most of my life in that cycle of ruinous behaviour. His bouts of drinking caused me periods of torment and sorrow.’
‘As I have previously stated, having endured a 13-year conservatorship that stripped her of civil rights and fundamental liberties, Britney will no longer be bullied by her father or anyone else.’
Jamie Lynn was accused of ‘airing false or fantastical grievances’ to garner publicity for her book and warned her sister will take further legal action if she continues to speak about her and their feud.
The letter, which was first obtained by Page Six, concluded: ‘Britney was the family’s breadwinner and she also otherwise supported you. Publicly airing false or fantastical grievances is wrong, especially when designed to sell books. It is also potentially unlawful and defamatory.
‘Michelle Obama famously said, ‘When they go low, we go high.’ And to Britney’s great credit, that is exactly what Britney is going to do, for the time being.
‘You recently reportedly stated that the book was ‘not about her.’ She takes you at your word and we, therefore, demand that you cease and desist from referencing Britney derogatorily during your promotional campaign.
‘If you fail to do so or defame her, Britney will be forced to consider and take all appropriate legal action.’

News of the letter comes as Britney hit out at her sister and mother in a wild Instagram post in which she said she should have ‘slapped’ her family members ‘across your f***ing faces.’
In her since-deleted post, 40-year-old singer–songwriter seemed to take aim at her sister Jamie Lynn Spears, 30, for having gotten a cushier upbringing and a starring role on TV when she was just a child.
She also lambasted her mother Lynne Spears for not being supportive to her in the wake of her breakup with Justin Timberlake.
Sources close to Jamie Lynn told TMZ that she was ‘disturbed’ and ‘upset’ by the Instagram video, and claimed Jamie Lynn believes Britney has ‘immense jealousy’ over her childhood.
Jamie Lynn is said to receive death threats ‘every time Britney posts’ according to the source, and has asked her to stop with no avail.
Britney has been feuding publicly with her sister Jamie Lynn on and off in recent weeks, even going so far as to refer to her sister as a ‘scum person’ following her claims about Britney holding a knife.
But Jamie Lynn responded in kind, telling Britney to chat with her about her grievances ‘privately’ and to ‘stop continuing the narrative that I haven’t been there for you or that I’m making things up.’
A ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast interview with Jamie Lynn concerning her memoir and claims about Britney was due to be released today, but it is unclear whether the podcast will be published in light of the new legal warning.
