A police officer has been caught parking on a double yellow line as he appeared to pop into a McDonald’s for his lunch.

The shocking footage shows the officer calmly walking back to his vehicle after he exits the fast-food restaurant on Victoria Street in Westminster, central London.

It even looks as though the policeman left his siren lights on the top of his car on while he made his way inside the McDonald’s.

Under law it is prohibited to park on double yellow lines at any time. The only exceptions are to change a flat tyre, if instructed by police or in a genuine emergency.

The Met Police say work is now underway to identify the officer so a decision can be made as to whether any further action is required.

The footage clearly shows the police car is parked on a double yellow line

The video shows the police car is parked on the left lane of traffic on a busy street filled with cars.

No other vehicles appear to be stuck behind the parked car.

After the policeman enters his car with food from McDonald’s, the vehicle then begins to slowly drive off and rejoin traffic.

A Met Police spokesperson has said: ‘While police officers are entitled to take refreshment breaks during their shifts our officers should always ensure police vehicles are parked in a considerate and appropriate manner.

‘Officers should respect parking restrictions – including yellow lines – unless there are good operational reasons for not doing so.

‘Work is underway to identify the officer involved so the full circumstances can be established. Once this has been done, a decision will be made as to whether any further action is required.’
