Pregnant woman knifed to death in front of daughter, 6, by violent partner who tried to kill her before

A PREGNANT woman has been stabbed to death in front of her daughter by her violent partner who had tried to kill her before.

Hellen Karine Carvalho da Silva, 29, was stabbed five times at her house in Zacarias, in the south-eastern Brazilian state of São Paulo, in the early hours of October 16.

The suspect, 28-year-old partner Marcelo Rodrigues, lived with her at the address.

The victim’s aunt, Eunice de Carvalho, told local media that Hellen’s six-year-old daughter saw her mum being killed.

She also revealed that Hellen’s 11-year-old son had fled the house after seeing his mum being attacked by her partner and hearing her cries for help, RP10 reports.

The boy first ran to his grandad's house nearby, but he did not answer the door.

He then took a bike from the garden and went to his aunt Eunice’s house, where he arrived at around 1.30am, asking for help.

According to local media, he said he saw his stepfather beating his mum.

Eunice’s husband then drove to Hellen’s house, but he found the woman dead, covered in blood and with blows to the thorax and arms.

According to RP10, Hellen's six-year-old daughter was there and said her stepfather had hurt her mum.

Police were called after an anonymous report and found the unconscious victim lying on the sidewalk when they arrived at the scene, according to Região Noroeste.

An ambulance rescued the victim and sent her to Santa Casa de Buritama hospital.

The woman, who was three months pregnant, was pronounced dead.

Doctors said the victim had at least five knife wounds in the chest area, Hojemais reports.

Eunice told local media that Hellen’s partner had previously attempted to kill her twice by strangulation during their five-month relationship and that they separated after the incidents.

However, they got back together after she discovered she was pregnant.

Eunice told local media that the suspect – who went on the run after the attack – has a twin brother and that he may try to evade capture by passing himself off as him.

However, she said the brother has a tattoo on his calf so he may be more easily identifiable.

According to Eunice, Hellen was planning to move to her dad's house on the day she was killed.

Eunice believes Rodrigues killed his partner when she told him she was leaving him.

The suspect has a criminal record for various thefts, including chickens and gas cylinders.

He once even stole and crashed a car belonging to the local council.

Hellen's family said the suspect was also aggressive and took drugs, but he was on medication to try to quit his addiction.

He is not the biological father of Hellen’s two children.

Marcelo’s preventive detention has been ordered and the case has been registered as femicide.

Local media have reported that Hellen will be buried in the nearby municipality of Guararapes.

However, it is not clear when or if the funeral has already taken place.
