A high school principal has been slammed for a controversial speech saying truants are likely to become rape victims.
Principal Virginia Crawford delivered a speech to students at Fraser High School in Hamilton, New Zealand, which was secretly recorded and uploaded online.
The principal made several bold statements about students who make the decision to truant during school hours on Thursday.

‘Every student who walks out of the gate to truant is already a statistic of the worst kind,’ she said.
‘[Truants are] highly likely to go to prison, to commit domestic violence or be a victim of domestic violence, be illiterate, be a rape victim, be a suicide victim.’

The eleven minute video uploaded on YouTube was posted yesterday and has already received over 20,000 views.
One mother commented on the video saying she found the speech ‘disturbing’ and is ‘seriously concerned’ about her daughter who attends the school.
‘You have failed my daughter as an educator, you have failed the system … YOU madam principal are a FAILURE in this matter,’ the comment said.

Crawford claims what she said has been backed up with ‘economic research’ and students at Fraser are proving her claims are correct.

Some people commented in support of the principal’s speech saying ‘she’s encouraging kids to do their best’ and ‘sometimes the only way is tough love especially when it’s a last resort.’
Fraser High School was contacted for comment.
