Gary Barlow details issue with Take That bandmates that’s been ‘driving me nuts’

GMB: Richard reflects on throwback to Take That’s breakup

Gary Barlow has revealed in a special live podcast episode that there has been one thing his bandmate does that’s been “driving him nuts.” The Take That singer spoke to Sam Ryder and Nicole Scherzinger to talk about their new album, This Life.

During the podcast, Gary said: “We’ve had this thing recently and it’s been driving me nuts, you two have. I’ve been telling everyone how much I love you but there’s been one thing on this particular promotional trail.”

He added: “Rather than flying to Finland and Germany and all these things, the land of the Zoom has come in now. What’s been happening on these zooms is that they come on the screen and they say, ‘Good Morning it’s Dublin, we’ve got Take That in the studio,’ on the screen [Mark and Howard are] going *chews*. What are those pig things you eat from Marks and Spencers?”

Mark Ryan interrupted and said: “Percy Pigs.” Gary continued: “Percy Pigs. And Howard loves crisps. If you put crisps anywhere near him, he’s dipping them in houmous, Ringos and hummus, bacon fries and hummus. I’m just like this is day one of our media training said never eat in an interview.” (sic)

The Take That frontman has also recently unveiled that he developed an eating disorder during the band’s nine year break. The group was originally formed in 1990 before Robbie Williams quit the band five years later.

The remaining four members continued to succeed with hits such as Patience and Rule The World, but Gary endured personal health struggles. Talking on ITV’s Lorraine, Barlow said that he battled with bulimia.

“The first time I did it, it took me 15 minutes to get the job done – now it takes me 30 seconds. With every day and every binge, I am eating the pop star to death,” he revealed.

Speaking about his recovery, he added: “2003 – it was the day when I just went, ‘No, I’m not having this anymore, I’m going to change. I want to change and I’m determined that this is not who I’ve become’.

“It only took a few years to get that low, but it took me years to get back to who I wanted to be. 10 years probably.” He also spoke about his struggles with James Corden in 2021, saying: “I had a rough period with food that I’m not proud of, where I really lost control of myself.

“I remember one particular day just thinking: ‘How have I got here?’ I was just so disappointed with myself. I turned my brain on to sorting out what I ate. The trouble is the food I love – Chinese, chips, crisps. They were giving me a couple of minutes of a food coma, taking me out of the real world. It’s just not good, that.”
