Now, the look is being pipped as the next big fashion trend. The insight was shared by content creator @thefiveamshopper who posts her style analysis and tips on the TikTok account. She predicted a new trend for next season, inspired by the Princess of Wales.

The social media user said: “We finally see Kate Middleton’s Christmas day outfit. That’s the Alexander McQueen forest green coat and definitely a new trend alert. Look at her hat. I can’t.

“This hat is everything. I want it. I need it. This is going to start a whole new trend. I think it’s Philip Treacy if I’m not mistaken. It’s so beautiful. I’m going to wear a hat today for sure. I mean, she is absolute perfection.”

The expert theorised the royal women co-ordinated their hats on the annual Christmas morning trip to church this year. She said: “And I also think that it seems like the royals must be speaking to each other about what they wear on the day. Have a look at this.

“So here we have Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and her daughter here, and they’re both also in these kinds of Fedora-style hats. But definitely, Kate Middleton, Princess Catherine, takes the cake. It’s so, so beautiful. I want one in every colour.”

Twitter users also gushed over the look. One, Shiloh, wrote: “Kate Middleton always looks beautiful & elegant. This outfit is absolutely perfect and the hat is the cherry on the cake.”

Kate’s hat is a modified version of a Philip Treacey design. To purchase from the designer, customers need to enquire. However, similar hats are available on the British high street.

They include this dark green velvet fedora hat from New Look for £14.99. ASOS has a wool fedora with an adjuster in olive green for £19.

A slightly more expensive option – but a dead ringer for Kate’s – is this Richmond Fedora with a leather trim and feather brooch from Walker and Hawkes, £35.95. Or, break the bank and treat yourself to a Hicks & Brown gamebird feather Suffolk Fedora, £99.

Kate wore the hat with a classic Alexander McQueen coat she’s worn since January 2020. She added leather gloves and matching brown suede boots and a clutch.

Kate’s earrings also sparked a spike in Google searches in the past seven days after the royal wore a pair of dangling pieces from Sezane.

The Princess wore the Dina earrings, £108, from the French high street label. The gold-plated brass earrings are made with natural stones and have a rustic, antique look to them.

It’s not the first time Kate has inspired a new trend, according to social media style experts. The Princess has given a “whole new look” in a recent tiara outing.

The royal wore the Lotus Tiara in an all-new way, inspiring gushing comments from fans. Style expert Miranda Holder told fans: ” Kate Middleton gave us a whole new look this week by wearing hers over a slightly 60s inspired, but gorgeous, sleek blow dry.”

The expert explained: “Tiaras are designed to sit at the front of the head so they’re on the same plane as the facial features. This means they could be easily admired and reflected flattering light back onto the wearer.”
