Former Strictly Come Dancing star Mica Paris admitted she found her time on the much-loved show to be an “intense” and “terrible” experience.

The 54-year-old singer – who found fame with chart-topping hits such as My One Temptation – took part in the BBC One dance competition back in 2006 with pro dancer Ian Waite.

Ahead of the 21st series on the ballroom show, the raven-haired beauty admitted that she found rehearsals far too intense and struggled to keep up with the amount of physical endurance involved for the live shows.

The former EastEnders star confessed in a recent interview with MailOnline that she was initially under the impression that taking part on the show would be a good way to lose weight.

But the soap star failed to take into account quite how exhausting it would be to compete and admitted that she found her time on the series to be “terrible”.

She told the publication: “It was terrible. There’s so much training and it’s so intense. You don’t even know if you’re coming or going.

“If you’re a sports person, it can work, but someone like me – who had people dancing in my [music] videos – I didn’t do any of that.”

Mica went on to add that although she didn’t enjoy taking part on the BBC show, she still had a lot of love for her former dance partner.

She added: “I used to stand there with a piece of cloth waving it around for age. I saw my former dance partner Ian Waite the other day when he came to see one of my shows, which was really nice. Ian is great.”

The singer went on to reveal what must be one of the most unlikely reactions to being eliminated, admitting that when she was voted off in week two – she threw a party to celebrate.

She explained that she felt her body was too exhausted to have even attempted to compete any further in the show, which left her overjoyed when she was given the boot.

As a child, Mica and her family would often cosy up round the telly to watch Strictly, so when the opportunity to be a part of the show came up, she jumped at the chance.

But on reflection, the reality was far from enjoyable with the doting mum still breastfeeding at the time.

Although she didn’t enjoy that particular BBC show, her experience didn’t put her off from working with the flagship channel in the future.

Loyal soap fans will remember when the singer joined the cast of EastEnders back in 2020 when she took on the role of Ellie Nixon who was sent to prison.

Now, more than three years since she first walked onto Albert Square, Mica believes it is time for her feisty character to make a comeback – but she’s still waiting for TV bosses to call.
