Gemma Atkinson has spoken out following her beau Gorka Marquez’s elimination from Strictly Come Dancing.

The Spanish dancer was paired with radio DJ Nikita Kanda for this year’s series of the glitzy BBC One show. However, despite reaching the final last year with Helen Skelton – it seems it wasn’t meant to be this year.

During the pre-recorded results show on Sunday (October 8) Gorka and Nikita found themselves in the dance-off for the second time. The two competed against Love Island star Zara McDermott and Graziano Di Prima.

Ultimately it was Zara who won over the judges, which meant Nikita and Gorka were sent home. And now, following his shock exit, Gemma, who met and fell in love with Gorka when she was on the show in 2017, has shared his response.

The soap star was at the iconic Pride Of Britain awards on Sunday night (October 8) along with Gorka. Taking to her Instagram Story the following morning (October 9) Gemma was heading back home after staying in London.

The TV favourite told fans she had met Gorka’s Strictly partner at the event – and also revealed how she feels about his exit from the show. Gemma said: “I got to meet Nikita, Gorka's partner. She's lovely. So, so lovely.”

She went on: “Literally no dance experience, no acting experience, getting up at four o'clock for a breakfast show before rehearsals… I said to her, 'You should be bloody proud! Genuinely mate, be bloody proud.”

Gemma then noted how she sees Gorka’s elimination from Strictly as a “silver lining.” She explained: “The silver lining is that Gorka gets to come home now. We've not see him for four weeks… Obviously I have now but [not] Mia and Thiago so yeah.” She then added: “It’s fine."

Gemma and Gorka first struck up a relationship when they met on the 2017 series of the glitzy BBC One show. Since then, the pair have gotten engaged and welcomed two children – newborn son Thiago and four-year-old daughter Mia.

It comes after Gemma revealed Gorka’s rather cheeky request every time he returns home from Strictly Come Dancing. Speaking on an episode of her podcast The Overshare, Gemma joked how Gorka wants her to slip into some lingerie. However, the former glamour model just wants to have a good night's rest while he looks after the children.

Gemma revealed: "My fella works away a lot and I often say to my producer Matt, 'Gorka's back on Thursday, I've not seen him for three weeks, he's going to want the lingerie and all this'. And all I want to do is get in bed and he will text me saying 'Can't wait for tonight' and I'm like, 'oh God' because for me I can't wait for tonight because it means you can get up and I can get some sleep."
