Nostradamus’ chilling 2023 predictions – riots, cannibals and a disaster on Mars

Famous French prophet Nostradamus made thousands of prediction in his book Les Propheties 467 years ago – and a startling number have already come true.

The Frenchman was born in Saint Rémy de Provence, southern France, in December 1503.

He would go on to write a series of 932 quatrains – four line poems – which contain thousands of predictions for the future of humanity.

Nostradamus' forecasts are believed to reach as far forward in the future as 3797, but he has already foreseen with startling accuracy the rise of Adolf Hitler, the assassination of JFK and the 9/11 attack as well as other events of huge historical importance.

So, with that in mind, the Daily Star thought we'd take a look at what he reckons 2023 holds in store. And we're afraid it isn't good news.

An economy so bad 'man will eat his fellow man'

Cannibalism could be on the horizon for a few of us, as Nostradamus predicts that the rising price of food might lead to some incredibly extreme and morally dubious eating habits.

"So high will the bushel of wheat rise, that man will be eating his fellow man", the French mystic writes in a section that also predictions that "the voice of the rare bird will be heard".

It's fairly safe to read this as a less apocalyptic warning that the UK's cost of living crisis will carry on into 2023, too.

And as for "the voice of a rare bird"? Nope, we don't have a clue either.

Mysterious disaster on Mars sparks headache for Elon Musk?

  • Blind mystic Baba Vanga's 2023 predictions including alien attack and nuclear blackmail

The prophet starts of strong with a prediction that mankind's quest to colonise Mars, spearheaded by Tech-entrepreneur turn Twitter magnate Elon Musk, might come to a grinding halt in the next 12 months.

That's because Nostradamus wrote of a "celestial fire when the lights of Mars will go out".

With SpaceX and Musk himself recently doubling down on their promise that "the Mars plan is moving forwards", could it be that something terrible awaits the first humans to make it to the red planet?

A 'great war' set to see 'people dead through evil'

  • Elon Musk's mum tells haters 'stop being mean' to him as he gets 'lots of hate'

In the very same quatrain, just one line later in fact, Nostradamus tells of "Seven months great war, people dead through evil".

It's not hard to see this eerily reflected in the current situation in Ukraine, as Vladimir Putin's bloody invasion of the country, launched back in February, grinds on.

The hint at "evil" could well suggest more dark discoveries are set to be made in Ukraine in 2023, after numerous claims of Russian invaders committing war crimes in the region ins 2022.

'Dry earth grows more parched' before 'great floods'

  • 'Living Nostradamus' who predicted Queen's death says other prophets now write to him

I'm afraid it's bad news for the environment too next year, if our old boy Nostra is anything to go by.

"The dry earth will grow more parched, and there will be great floods when the rainbow is seen", the astrologer writes.

With climate change rising higher and higher on mankind's agenda in recent years, it's not too much of a stretch to see our planet wreaking havoc yet again next year.

Riots and 'dreadful horrors' in the streets

  • Supermarket brawl sees spitting woman beat neighbour to a pulp with 10lb bag of mince

"Sooner or later you will see great changes made – dreadful horrors and vengeances", writes Nostradamus, hinting at a period of more social upheaval and civil unrest in 2023.

He goes on to write of "trumpets shaking with great discord" and "an agreement broken", hinting yet again at some form of revolt or revolution somewhere on Earth in 2023.

With weeks of rioting in Iran at the tail end of this year after the murder of Mahsa Amini in September for not wearing her Hijab correctly in the ultra-conservative country, it wouldn't be a surprise to see more social uprisings around the world.
