Ben Shephard gobsmacked as Tipping Point contestant makes show history

Tipping Point host Ben Shephard has shared his excitement after one of the ITV show’s contestants made history.

On a recent episode of the popular game show, Ben, 47, was left noticeably gobsmacked when a female contestant called Maria came back from a big loss to score the show’s first double double drop and a huge cash prize.

Midway through the episode, Maria was trailing behind her competitor Martin with £850 in her prize pot in comparison to his £2,300.

However, it seemed luck was on Maria’s side as she proceeded to play a blinding round where she went on to land a double double drop – leaving Ben astounded.

As the winning counters fell from the machine, a shocked Ben said: “Wow, so Maria, goodness me, this has never happened before. We've never had two doubles go in one drop!”

“You have created a bit of Tipping Point history. Now the question is, have you done enough to overhaul what is a 29 counter lead?”

Ben, who also hosts ITV’s morning show Good Morning Britain, continued to calculate her winnings to see if she had enough in the bank to secure a place in the final round.

He explained to Maria and viewers at home: “I can tell you there are nine counters in the win zone there, which is £450, so we can start by giving you £450.”

“Then we can double it, of course, because you got the first double, which takes you to £900 But then you got the second double, which means we can then double that, so that second double will take you to £1,800 in one drop.”

“And when we take that from the machine and put it into your bank, that means you are today's winner with an extraordinary score of £2,650.”

Maria then went on to play the final round, where she eventually bagged a whopping £10,000 prize.

After the episode aired to the delight of fans, dad of two Ben took to his social media account to celebrate the moment further.
