However, they separated in 2016 and Abbington became engaged to Jonathan Goodwin in October 2021.
Amanda spoke to The Sunday Times magazine about their split stating:
"When we broke up nobody knew, we didn’t tell anybody except for a few key people because they had to know, because of the logistics of hotels and stuff."
"It took six months for it to get out and a lot of that was while we were working on Sherlock… We were professional and we were going to get on and make a show and be civil to each other."

Amanda's son Joe Freeman is an actor like his Mum and Dad.
In February 2023 it was announced he would star in Everybody's Talking about Jamie in Tunbridge Wells.
Everybody's Talking about Jamie is inspired by the 2011 documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16.
It follows the story of 16-year-old Jamie Campbell who lives on a council estate.
Jamie is seen overcoming prejudice and bullying as he pursues his dream of becoming a drag queen.
Jamie wanted to attend his end-of-year prom wearing a frock and makeup.
His mum helped him by buying red heels and a dress from a shop run by a former drag queen.
However, Jamie's father rejected his son and a classroom bully taunted him for pursuing his dream.
His school also stood in the way.
Who is Amanda Abinngton's daughter Grace?
Not much is known about Amanda and Martin's daughter Grace.
However, she did attend the London premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever alongside her father, his partner Rachel Miriam and her brother in 2022.
Martin has previously admitted he's struggled with his children flying the nest.
He acknowledged it's normal for his teens wanting to spend time without him but finds it difficult not to get upset by it.
