You Don’t Know Me is based on the best-selling novel by criminal defence barrister Imran Mahmood. Adapted by screenwriter Tom Edge who also worked on Vigil, The Crown and Strike, the BBC One series is almost ready to air. Express.co.uk has everything you need to know about You Don’t Know Me.

When is You Don’t Know Me out?

The BBC commissioned You Don’t Know Me to be adapted from Mahmood’s novel in early 2020.

A release date has finally been announced for the drama which was filmed at the start of this year.

You Don’t Know Me will premiere on Sunday, December 5, at 9pm on BBC One.

New episodes are going to air every Sunday until the finale on Boxing Day.

Who is in the cast of You Don’t Know Me?

Leading the cast is actor Samuel Adewunmi as the main character Hero.

Adewunmi starred as Carcer Dun in The Watch and most recently was in ITV’s Angela Black as Theo Walters.

He is joined by newcomer Sophie Wilde as Kyra, as well as Roger Jean Nsengiyumva from Tomb Raider and Tuwaine Barrett who was in The Personal History of David Copperfield.

Bukky Bakray, who has been named as the youngest ever winner of the BAFTA Rising Star Award at 19, will also star.

Is there a trailer for You Don’t Know Me?

Yes, a trailer has now come out for You Don’t Know Me on BBC One.

The trailer starts with Adewunmi’s character Hero on a bus as he looks over at Kyra (Sophie Wilde).

In the voiceover, he explains: “I met her two years ago, before any of this kicked off anyway.

“I can’t find her, she vanished. Everything goes back to her.”

What is You Don’t Know Me about?

Only a handful of details have been released about what is going to happen in You Don’t Know Me.

The mysterious synopsis reads: “The drama centres on a young man, who, with overwhelming evidence against him, stands accused of murder.  

“At his trial, Hero (Adewunmi) tells an extraordinary story.

“It is about the woman he loves, Kyra (Wilde) who got into dangerous trouble.

“It’s about how he risked everything to save her. He swears he’s innocent.

“But in the end, all that matters is this: do you believe him?”

The cast and crew started filming in Birmingham back in February with production wrapped up before the summer.

You Don’t Know Me is co-produced by BBC One and Netflix with the streaming service having worldwide rights outside the UK, Ireland and China.

When the series begins, You Don’t Know Me will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer in the UK.

You Don’t Know Me will start on Sunday, December 5, at 9pm on BBC One.
