Video shows the moment a tense row erupted after a man tried to pull down a Palestinian flag from a lamp post in east London.

The confrontation comes amid heightened tensions in communities across the country over the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East.

In Bromley-on-Bow, a Palestine supporter filmed the moment he stopped a man who had been hovering around a street light which he had tied the Palestinian banner to.

He begins to angrily question the man: ‘What you doing? You trying to get it down? Why are you trying to get the flag down?’

The man – who is wearing a cap and appears to be Jewish – replies: ‘This is England.’

The cameraman responds: ‘So? We’re supporting Palestine… You got a problem with the Palestine flag? What’s wrong with it?’

He then goads the man to try and take the flag down from the lamp post by a Tesco store.

He adds: ‘Go on, try and take it down… Go on… Try your best.’

With the flag about three metres above the ground, the other man replies: ‘Its quite high up.’

The man, who is wearing a white shirt and suit trousers, then gives up and walks back to his car parked at the Tesco petrol station.

The other man follows him and approaches his vehicle before filming him driving away.

It comes after a number of protests have been held across the country – both in support of Palestine and Israel.

Last month, protesters scaled Sheffield Town Hall and pulled down an Israeli flag flying over it, which had been put up by the council.

The pair then threw it to the floor and attempted to raise a Palestinian flag in its place, sparking a police investigation.
