Gemma Atkinson in surprising wedding update years after Gorka Marquez proposed

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Gemma Atkinson has admitted her and Gorka Marquez’s loved ones have “forgotten [they’re] engaged”.

Strictly Come Dancing professional Gorka got down on one knee and proposed to the former Emmerdale actress two years ago, on Valentine’s Day.

However, the pair, who are parents to daughter Mia, four, and four-month-old son Thiago, have still not set a date for the wedding.

Despite not making any plans for their big day, Gemma has insisted she and Gorka are not under any “pressure” to tie the knot.

Gemma explained to Express.co.uk: “We’re under no pressure at all from family or mates to get married.

“I think because they see how happy we are anyway, they’ve forgotten we’re engaged!

“We’re in no rush at all to be honest, things are lovely as they are.”

The star, who first met Spanish pro dancer Gorka when she competed in Strictly back in 2017, also defies convention when it comes to date nights.

Gemma admitted she and Gorka tend to avoid extravagance when making plans to spend some quality time together.

The Hits Radio presenter shared: “Date nights for us are always nights in with a takeaway pizza and a movie.

“We’ve always loved doing that. If we do go out, it’s usually to the cinema – but that’s as posh as it gets for us!

“We love being home together, whenever we can be.”

Gemma and Gorka have both been very open about the challenges Strictly season can pose to their relationship, as the dancer often has to spend a great deal of time away from their family home in Manchester to rehearse in London.

Gemma divulged: “Strictly is always tough, in that Gorka is away from home a lot.

“But it’s the same for a lot of families, so we just try to get on with it really,” the mum-of-two resolutely added.

She continued: “It’s hard for Mia in the week, and, obviously, looking after her and her brother alone from August to Christmas is exhausting for me.”
