Listen to Gucci Mane’s Heartbreaking Tribute Song ‘Letter to Takeoff’ for Late Migos Star

With the Zaytoven-produced track, which was released on Tuesday, November 15, the 1017 Records boss also pays homage to other deceased rappers like XXXTentacion and PnB Rock.

AceShowbizGucci Mane is honoring Takeoff through music. On Tuesday, November 15, the “I Get the Bag” rapper released a tribute song to the late Migos star called “Letter to Takeoff” and its Joe Yung Spike-directed music video.

Mane expresses his grief by rapping his emotional lyrics in a cemetery. “Just left another funeral, I shed a tear/ I’m still in disbelief, I can’t believe it’s real … like how the f**k we gon’ lose Takeoff, damn he didn’t deserve it,” he rhymes. “We don’t supposed to question God, but damn, Takeoff was perfect.”

With the Zaytoven-produced track, the 1017 Records boss also pays homage to other deceased rappers like XXXTentacion and PnB Rock, who was fatally shot during a robbery in Los Angeles in September this year. He also remembers Shawty Lo and Slim Dunkin.

Takeoff was shot and killed on November 1 in Houston, Texas. He was at a private party at 810 Billiards & Bowling in downtown Houston with his uncle Quavo around 2:35 A.M. when investigators said shots rang out during an afterparty attended by around 40 people. His public funeral was held in Atlanta on November 11, which was attended by Quavo, Offset, Drake and other stars.

As for Mane, he released a self-reflective single “Dissin the Dead” back in July in which he seemingly regrets the “trend” of speaking negatively about the deceased rappers. “I know I should be more careful with the s**t that I said/ I feel like I started a trend, they never gon’ stop/ They gon’ keep dissin’ the dead,” he raps.

Gucci famously name-dropped Pookie Loc, the man he was accused of killing in May 2005 in Decatur, Georgia, in several of his songs. One of the examples is “Truth”, in which the rhymer seemingly disses his longtime rival Jeezy (Young Jeezy).
