Strictly: Annabel on dancing first
Strictly Come Dancing star Annabel Croft described the “terrifying” experience of being the first celebrity to take to the dancefloor last week.
Appearing on Monday’s spin-off show It Takes Two, former tennis star Annabel and dance partner Johannes Radebe addressed the minor mistakes made during Saturday’s show.
Host Fleur East asked: “Were you a little bit gutted about the few mistakes that you made?”
“I was actually, I was a bit demoralised the next morning because, you know, we’d worked so hard on it,” Annabel admitted.
“We practiced it, we’d even Zoomed each other and practiced that feather boa bit so many times.

“It’s like, how can I get it so right in practice for the first time for many of the dances and then just that little blip…
“I honestly couldn’t tell you what happened, I really don’t know, I just got a bit tangled up with my feather boa.”
“I mean, to be fair you were opening the show,” Fleur pointed out, before asking: “Do you think that contributed a lot to your nerves? Because that’s daunting.”
“Well, yeah it was such a privilege and an honour to be asked to open the show like that.

“It was a bit scary because you have your build-up to where you’re going to be placed in the line up and it’s a bit like playing a tennis match, you always kind of work backwards and think, ‘Oh, I have to do this beforehand and that, and that, then we’ll be ready to go out there.’
“And then suddenly we were first, so you don’t get that rehearsal time backstage before, you’ve just got to come down the staircase and go.
“So it was a bit terrifying, but it was still an honour.
“Maybe that contributed, I don’t know. I think I give Johannes kittens because we do things and it looks OK, and then I think you’re trying to figure out, ‘How does she do these things wrong when it comes to going out there?’
“I keep saying I’m like a show pony that sort of heads and bolts out of the arena, does a few jumps of my own and comes back in and jumps a few more and does a bit more show pony stuff.”
Turning to her dance partner, she added: “I think you haven’t quite figured me out yet!”
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One, while It Takes Two airs weekdays from 6pm on BBC Two.
